Republicans CRUSHED By Their Own Words As Prices Surge In War Consequences

Republicans attempts to defend surging prices get crushed when their own attacks come back to haunt them. Yasmin Kahn and Brett Erlich break it down on The Damage Report. Leave a comment with your thoughts below!

So get ready for a minute of Republicans insane hypocrisy on gas prices all the way from Biden to Trump. Let's look at that. of resetting the stage on Iran. If you've got a job, you [00:00:18] have to travel to your job. That means that it's gonna cost you more to travel. a small price to pay whenever you consider that he's saving millions of lives in the future. Record gas prices, I know they're down a little bit, but nationally 60 % higher than they were when Biden took office. What do you hear from your constituents about gas prices? Do they also [00:00:34] see this as just a short term thing? I hope so. mean, that's one of reasons I'm communicating this. We have to do this. What should Congress do about gas prices at 411 national average? Well, there's nothing we can do. I mean, I don't like to brag about all the expensive places [00:00:52] I've been, but earlier today I went to the gas station. Gasoline and diesel fuel and oil is a product of the conflict in Iran. How do you square that impatience with gas prices under Biden when at times it's 330, 340? I don't have to square anything with you, okay? Yeah, he's [00:01:10] just a representative in Congress. He doesn't have to talk to people. He doesn't have to answer any questions if he doesn't want to. And those responses were awful. They were terrible. They were inexcusable, some might say. But they are arguably still better than what Trump had [00:01:25] to say because he posted this lie at 5 o'clock in the morning on Truth Social. It says oil is down 25 % or $30 per barrel since Sleepy Joe. The big arrows, they can't miss it, 120 [00:01:40] on Biden, 90 on Trump. And he's not entirely wrong that the barrel of Brent crude did peak at about 120 per barrel under Biden, but that was in June of 2022. Right now it's sitting at around $100 per barrel after starting the week at around 114 per barrel. And the thing [00:01:59] is, the average American person is not out there buying barrels of Brent crude for themselves. So let's take a look at the gas prices from the election all the way to now. And you can see there, the average price per gallon has gone from 3.18 to 3.84. And that is really [00:02:17] where the American people are going to start to feel these changes and these impacts from Trump's war. So diesel was 1.37 also. And that is 32.3 % higher from the election day [00:02:33] average. And also a new report from Senator Markey is estimating how much that increase is gonna cost you the average American person. And he said in the report released from his office, it projects that if gas prices remain at their current level of over 450 per gallon, [00:02:50] will cost uh US drivers an extra $73.06 per month or $876 per year to fill up their cars compared to what they were paying before Trump attacked Iran in late February. And for a family [00:03:06] with two cars, this would mean forking over an extra $1,753 for gas this year. I'm gonna let you talk Brett because like don't get me started on car dependency in this country and [00:03:21] why it's a problem and why this isn't actual freedom. But what are your thoughts on these Republicans trying to push it as like uh gas is actually down because of barrels of oil. I mean, it is first of all, I just want everyone to know that I'm about to give an analysis [00:03:42] of Brent Crude. And for those of you not familiar, it is actually my nickname is Brent Crude. John and I are superheroes. Johnny Damage and Brent Crude do take to the skies to protect us against these kinds of things. I love hearing people pretend that this is not a huge deal. [00:04:01] I love that they absolutely change their opinion. based on who is president and whether their tribalism and their party loyalties mandate that they toe the line. It's very obvious that [00:04:18] they're trying to be opportunistic. But I do think that the average person, while they don't analyze the Brent crude price, they do understand we have lot of stereotypes and stereotypes exist for a reason. The reason is Middle East is oil place. It is place where all the oil [00:04:36] is. And if there's problems in Middle East, we are going to spend a lot more on gas, period. And I mean, this is an amazing attempt by these guys like Rod, whatever his name is, Rod Johnson, trying to convince us like this is only temporary. And it might just be temporary, but the way [00:04:55] in which it is temporary is a lot less temporary than they'll have you think. The price of the brine crude might go up and down, but we make a lot of stuff out of oil. Plastic, diesel fuel, jet fuel, transportation of things gets more expensive. And not only do we make stuff [00:05:13] out of that, that are all in themselves products, but every product needs to get to other places so you can put it on your body or sit on it or use it to do things with in your daily life, right? This chair is made of oil. in many respects, cuz this is not real leather. [00:05:32] So all of the things in your life get more expensive, not just now but in the future. And it's so hilarious that they're like, this feels like a gotcha from the Republicans. like, when it was Biden, you were pretending oil wasn't a problem. And now that it's Trump, you're [00:05:48] pretending that it is. You say that the president doesn't have control over the price of oil, but it's like, normally, yeah, the president doesn't have control over the price of gas at the pump. Normally, But when you single handedly start a crisis in the Middle East that involves [00:06:04] not one but two blockades, things are going to get more expensive and I can pay it to you. And with Biden, it's like yes, the supply chain got a lot more expensive because of COVID. And that's the thing, you can argue with his handling of it fine, but he's not president [00:06:21] anymore. This guy is, if you were mad then, you gotta be mad now. And we saw a similar argument come up when he did all these things with the tariffs and then all of our prices went up. And it's like, usually, you're absolutely right. With the economy, there's always a lag [00:06:37] period, right? So a lot of times, one president will do things and the next president will get blamed for it. Or conversely, one president will do something and the next president will get praised for it, right? Having done nothing. But in this case, We have seen Donald Trump [00:06:52] in the one year that he has been president do so many things policy wise that had an immediate and direct effect on prices going up in the United States. And on top of that, he's empowering all these corporations, so they're raising their prices, right? The prices don't just go up, [00:07:09] they are raised and they're raised by these corporations. and these corporations that there's no checks and balances on them. These prices, why would they come down? They don't need to come down, right? They're making billions of dollars, right? We're seeing record profits for all these oil companies. Meanwhile, the average American person is being told, maybe [00:07:28] don't drive as much. Just think about where you're going, plan a little carpool, things like that.
