'No Kings' Protests Were A SMASHING SUCCESS
Data suggest the 2,000 “No Kings” protests combined to be the biggest day of demonstrations in American history.
- 20 minutes
We're here live at the No
Kings protest in Los Angeles.
It's loud. They've got a lot of cowbell.
And I saw that you have
maybe my favorite sign today.
Oh, I love that.
Yeah, it's a good reminder.
You know, ice melts under pressure
under the heat of the revolution.
- And my butt crack.
- Tell us what brings you out today?
[00:00:19]
You know, I'm just reminded that these
are the same types of insecure little boys
that called me names in elementary school,
and now they've just put on a suit
and called themselves officials.
So I'm out here to.
We're not we're not going to be shrunken.
We're not going to be silenced.
And twice.
[00:00:37]
On Saturday, hundreds of thousands of
people across the US took to the streets
to protest Trump's power grabs
and take the attention away from Trump's
big, beautiful birthday parade.
Before we get into the details
about the nationwide protest,
[00:00:53]
Jenk what are your initial thoughts
on the No King's Day of Action?
I kind of love it.
I think that,
it's a good way to fight back.
And as far as I could tell,
it was all peaceful.
Beautiful, protest.
The most American thing that you could do.
[00:01:13]
We're asking you guys in a live chat poll.
Do you think that no.
King's protest had an impact?
Right.
And and I think that the impact
is a is a good question.
And I think that that's
what we should discuss.
But let's get let's figure
out what happened first.
Right.
And then I'll tell you why I think that,
it was so positive.
[00:01:34]
Okay.
Well, let's give you some context
on this protest.
The no King's theme was orchestrated
by the 50 over 51 movement,
a national movement made up of everyday
Americans who stand for democracy and
[00:01:49]
against what they call the authoritarian
actions of the Trump administration.
The name 5051 stands for 50 states,
50 protests, one movement.
And according to their website, the Trump
administration defied our courts,
[00:02:05]
deported Americans, disappeared people
off the streets, attacked our civil rights
and slashed our services.
They've done this all while continuing to
serve and enrich their billionaire allies.
They described the protests as a
nationwide day of defiance, while the no.
[00:02:24]
King's protest follows days of
civil unrest in Los Angeles due to federal
immigration raids and and especially
Trump's deployment of the National Guard,
that was not the sole focus.
TYT spoke to Karen Rasmussen
at the protest in downtown LA, who was
[00:02:42]
protesting over a multitude of things.
- Take a look.
- Millions of people are going to die.
When Rubio says
that no children are dying on his watch.
He is a liar.
Children will die. Women will die.
Refugees will die.
[00:02:58]
People all over the world
who depended on our aid are going to die.
My name is Karen
and I'm here because I lost my job.
I was working
with the UN migration agency, IOM, and one
of the first executive orders of Trump.
[00:03:14]
Closed the US refugee admissions program
after two decades of safely
bringing refugees to the United States.
It is just.
Heartbreaking to think about
how many people will suffer, people
who had nothing to do with our government,
nothing to do with our country,
[00:03:31]
are going to suffer and die as a result
of the decisions of not only Trump,
but Musk and his so-called
Department of Government efficiency.
Where's the waste? Where's the fraud?
Where is it?
[00:03:50]
So was the protest successful? Fall.
If anything,
it definitely made a statement.
Over 2000 protests,
which were largely peaceful,
were scheduled across all 50 states.
And according to data analysts,
it may have been the biggest day
[00:04:06]
of demonstrations in US history.
According to data analyst G.
Elliott Morris, as of midnight on Sunday,
June 15th, we have data from about 40%
of No Kings Day events held yesterday,
accounting for over 2.6 million attendees,
according to our back of the envelope
[00:04:26]
math, that puts total attendance somewhere
in the 4 to 6 million people range.
That means roughly 1.2 to 1.8% of the US
population attended a No Kings Day event
somewhere in the country yesterday.
Now, Trump tried
to play it cool last week.
[00:04:43]
Take a look.
What do they got?
No king, no kings.
I don't feel like a king.
I have to go through hell
to get stuff approved.
A king would say, I'm not gonna get this.
King would have never had the California
mandate to even be talking to him.
He wouldn't have to call up
mike Johnson and Thune and say,
[00:05:01]
fellas, you got to pull this off.
And after years, we get it done.
No, no, we're not a king.
We're not a king at all.
Thank you very much.
But it's safe to say this was
a massive hit to Trump's ego, especially
when you look at his parades attendance.
[00:05:17]
You can see the comparison here
all the way down.
I don't know if you could see it.
It's so small, 250,000 maybe at best.
We'll get into that in the next block.
But 4 to 6 million
and likely much more for the no.
[00:05:34]
King's Day parade.
Now, Trump's communications director,
Steven Chung, made the claim
that 250,000 people were present.
But MSNBC's Vaughn Hillyard,
who was present,
claims there were far fewer people there.
[00:05:50]
Hours after the protests took place,
however, Trump took to Truth Social
and ordered ice to hit harder in
Democratic run cities, posting every day.
The brave men and women of Ice are
subjected to violence, harassment and even
[00:06:06]
threats from radical Democrat politicians.
But nothing will stop us from executing
our mission and fulfilling our mandate
to the American people.
Ice officers are here with ordered by
notice of this truth, to do all in their
[00:06:23]
power to achieve the very important goal
of delivering the single largest
mass deportation program in history.
We must expand efforts
to detain and deport illegal aliens
in America's largest cities
such as Los Angeles, Chicago and New York,
[00:06:40]
where millions upon millions of illegal
aliens reside there and other such cities
are the core of the Democrat Power Center,
where they use illegal aliens to expand
their voter base, cheat in elections,
and grow the welfare state.
These radical left Democrats
are sick of mind, hate our country, and
[00:07:01]
actually want to destroy our inner cities.
And they are doing a good job of it.
There is something wrong with them.
Now, Jake, there is a lot here.
I'd love to hear your thoughts,
but maybe my first question is, do you
think Trump wrote the word herewith?
[00:07:18]
Yeah, that's less likely.
Okay, I like that bit
of investigative reporting
you figure you did there to figure out
that maybe Trump didn't write that.
Exactly.
So. All right, first of all, I, I overall,
I love protests, I've organized,
[00:07:33]
I don't know, a dozen protests.
I think what the civil rights
movement did was perfect and beautiful.
I believe in civil disobedience.
So I do get frustrated with two things
that sometimes happen at protests that,
thank God, didn't happen here at all.
Okay, so number one is sometimes
when people that are not being productive
[00:07:52]
go and burn Waymo's
or American flags or something.
Don't don't don't, don't.
We want America to be on our side.
We don't want America to be against us.
Don't help Trump by putting
out a bad image of all the protesters with
[00:08:08]
bad actions from just a couple of people.
So in this case, they didn't.
It was beautiful. It was peaceful.
It was America showing up and going,
we don't want this.
We don't want Marines
in the streets of our American cities.
We don't want Donald Trump, you know,
trying to violate the Constitution
[00:08:24]
at every turn, etc..
So amazing.
Number two is I get
a little frustrated these days
that people don't get a step two.
You come to a protest? Yes.
But how are we actually going
to get Trump out of power?
Right.
But in this case, I think that there
was two things that made it powerful.
[00:08:40]
One is, look, just as always,
the reason why I like protests
is it shows camaraderie.
We all these Americans,
4 to 6 million Americans
showing up in big cities, small towns.
And that's powerful.
We covered the military parade
and the protests on The
[00:08:56]
Young Turks live on Saturday.
I did, I co-hosted with Ben Cohen
from Ben and Jerry's,
and then we had a bunch of experts on.
By the way, do you should check out
Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson interview
in the middle of that coverage.
It was haunting about his time as chief
of staff to Colin Powell, and how there's
[00:09:12]
a small group of people in this country
who are always pushing for war.
And so check if you're a member,
you can check it out any time.
And I think we've got those interviews
up on the conversation, which is
another channel that the Young Turks have.
[00:09:27]
So but as we were doing that,
the camaraderie is always great.
And here I'll read one comment
from one of our members
that I think summarizes it well.
Casey Progressive wrote in yes,
it had an impact.
If nothing else,
it was a morale boost of our community.
[00:09:43]
I know personally it was powerful
to see how many of us or in my community,
and we are far more than they think.
So especially in those small towns.
So that was perfect.
And I thank you for participating
and for seeing that.
And, and by the way, you could become
a member to join the members,
[00:09:59]
do the shows with us, or you could
hit the join button below on YouTube.
Okay.
So Ojeda also joined us,
Richard Ojeda on rebel headquarters, but
he's also running in North Carolina nine.
He's part of the rebellion pack.
He's joined the rebellion.
And he talked about how in Fayetteville,
North Carolina, there was 500 people
[00:10:16]
that showed up in this tiny little town.
So that kind of camaraderie is great.
Number two is in this case, it was
on the same day as the military parade.
So as goofball Trump is doing,
is playing with his toy soldiers
and tanks and and trying to show himself,
oh, I'm the big guy.
[00:10:33]
And by the way, the Washington looked like
it was occupied and especially as a war
was starting in the Middle East again.
It looked terrible.
We'll talk more about that later
in the show.
And then meanwhile,
you had all these millions of Americans
showing up saying, we don't want it.
We don't want the militarization.
We don't want it inside the country.
[00:10:51]
We don't want the wars
outside the country.
We don't want you
to violate the Constitution.
Perfect.
So that's I'm curious what
what the audience that's watching
live the show live 6 to 8 p.m.
Eastern every day.
The poll was, do you think the No
Kings protests had an impact?
[00:11:07]
Let's take a look. 75%. Yes, 25%.
No. I get the 25%.
I get people get frustrated protests.
Then what do we do? Right.
But the protest itself today was part
of the action of showing the juxtaposition
between Trump's militarism
and actual Americans, saying,
[00:11:23]
we don't want that kind of militarism.
That's not America. Right.
And and to me, when you get
to the substance of it, look, we covered
Tim Dillon earlier today, Jordan.
And he's, you know,
totally against the Iran war.
[00:11:40]
He voted for Trump,
but he's against the Iran war.
And he's like,
this is not any American priority at all.
But before that,
he was talking about immigration.
And in immigration he was like, look,
if all they did was arrest criminals
that were undocumented immigrants,
ms13 people, human smugglers, etc.,
or people that just came come across
[00:11:59]
the border, that would be super popular.
But once you start going
into the middle of the country
and taking people out of their high school
graduations and restaurants, and then
you bring in the military to do it.
The American people
aren't going to like that.
And he's 100% right.
[00:12:15]
I think that he's right
on both of those counts.
And so I know not only will
the American people not like it.
So if you ask me my opinion,
oh, I hate it.
The Marines do not belong
in American cities.
They are for fighting foreign enemies.
They are trained to kill foreign enemies.
[00:12:30]
Having them arrest people as they did
in LA and be involved in the streets here.
We're going to have Marines
in the streets everywhere.
I mean, especially as Israel
wants to drag us into another war.
Oh, hey.
Conveniently, we now have military
in the streets of the major cities.
So if anyone objects to Trump
or to Israel, easier to round them up.
[00:12:49]
No, no, I hate all of it. I don't want it.
We don't need it. It's nonsense.
So I love that they did this protest.
I'm so glad you mentioned
about the step two.
That's immediately where my mind went that
day and through the rest of the weekend.
[00:13:06]
So I'll give you kind of what I saw.
So in LA, of course, we had this massive
protest downtown and like you were saying,
it was peaceful after the fact.
There were people still hanging around.
And there was this incredible moment
on MSNBC where Jacob Soboroff is saying,
[00:13:22]
yes, it has been 100% peaceful.
Within 30s, the Los Angeles
Sheriff's Department started firing.
Less lethal.
This whole conversation
around that for another day.
Into the crowd.
And you saw from there
things were escalated.
[00:13:38]
It was almost like perfect timing and him
reminding the viewers everything was
peaceful to law enforcement escalating.
And I really want to stress
this happens all the time.
So when you see people reacting
or throwing things, it's important to
understand where so many of the times
that's how things originate,
[00:13:57]
especially here on step two, it's yes.
What does it look like from there?
I would hope
that new connections were formed.
I would hope that this empowers people
and inspires people to participate,
to get involved
and to remain involved going forward.
[00:14:12]
And what does that look like?
So I'm telling you,
I was thinking about this all weekend.
I have a video over on the The Insurgents
YouTube channel for my podcast,
where I laid out what I've seen
in my own community,
what in my own neighborhood, people have
established a rapid response network.
So if Ice comes to our neighborhood, which
seems inevitable at this point, there are
[00:14:31]
people who are volunteering to show up.
There are community events that happen
weekly that they're volunteering to stand
guard and protect the street vendors.
And even on Sunday night, I'd say over a
thousand people gathered in Highland Park
waving their signs, beeping their horns,
as traffic went by to remind people,
[00:14:51]
hey, we're all in this together.
And if you are undocumented and if you are
in peril, you could be next.
We've got your back.
We're going to look out for you.
It's going to take more than that.
And I would encourage everyone to,
if you're not here and if you're not
[00:15:06]
even in one of those Democratic cities
that they're going after,
start to build that infrastructure
proactively
before Ice and DHS comes to your town.
So when they single out these towns
New York, Chicago, LA, they're doing it
to drive a political narrative.
But if you look at the data.
[00:15:22]
Pew research did a study and they
published it in 2024, relying on data from
2022 that showed where undocumented people
live in the United States.
The top two and three after California
in in terms of states with the most
undocumented people are Florida and Texas.
[00:15:39]
You don't see Trump
talking about those two states
because it doesn't fit their narrative.
They want to go after sanctuary city laws,
which just precludes local law enforcement
from participating in DHS and Ice raids.
That's all it is.
And they use that as pretext
to demonize an entire city.
[00:15:58]
Cities of millions of people and convey
a false pretense and mislead viewers,
especially in right wing media,
about the realities on the ground here.
What you're seeing here is inspiring
and what you're going to see in Chicago
when things get amped up there
and in New York are going to be similar.
[00:16:14]
People don't want federal agents
and Marines in the National Guard coming
in and ripping people off the streets
and sending them to God knows where.
We don't have they don't have due process
in these situations.
It is invasive.
It is scary. It can be dangerous at times.
[00:16:30]
So I would encourage all of you
to proactively start to organize
in your community for when Ice
eventually comes to your town.
Yeah, so I want
to build on that a little bit.
First on the protesters,
somebody had the, you know,
a parody of the Don't Tread on Me flag.
[00:16:45]
I love that.
Yeah. What happened to Don't Tread on Me?
The Marines in streets of American cities
is definitely treading on us.
Okay, so, way to point that out.
Look, I would say to you, if you're going
to go to a protest against Trump,
[00:17:01]
bring as many American flags as you can.
We represent Americans. We are America.
This is America saying
you're violating our Constitution,
our laws, our traditions, our customs.
Okay.
So and I want to back up what Jordan
said over and over again, it's either the
[00:17:18]
local police or when this first started
in LA ice that starts the hostilities.
I started all of this on day one
by throwing tear gas canisters
and flash bang grenades into the crowd,
hitting people, etc.
And then people had a natural reaction
to throw things back, right?
[00:17:35]
So they're being purposely provocative to
try to find an excuse to basically attack
these cities, even though, as Jordan
pointed out, a lot of the undocumented
immigrants are actually in red states.
So when you do that, that means you're
not trying to solve that problem.
You're trying to create
a new political problem that you solve
[00:17:54]
by bringing in troops to these cities
and trying to occupy American cities.
And then finally, I heard from a friend
of mine lives in a community, that ice
raided, and everybody gets word of it.
[00:18:10]
They start panicking, and and they
start hiding, you know, nannies,
cleaning ladies, etc., in their basements.
Here's what Americans don't want to do.
Hide people in their basements
as the federal authority Gestapo looks
[00:18:28]
for them in the middle of the country.
They don't want that.
Here's another thing Americans
don't want Marines and and US
military in the streets of America.
Here's a third thing.
Americans don't want this war in Iran.
Okay, so here's my prediction.
[00:18:44]
Trump's poll numbers are going to drop
and they're going to drop precipitously.
Not a little bit, but a lot.
Because as you see all these things
happening over the course of about a week,
I think Americans are beginning
to get an very unsettled feeling
[00:19:03]
in the pit of their stomach.
There's something wrong here.
Way too much military. Military parade.
Military attacking their
own citizens in the streets.
And now war in the Middle East.
Now, this was exactly
what we didn't vote for.
[00:19:21]
The left didn't want it, by the way.
The right didn't want
a lot of this originally.
I mean, they I know they
love attacking immigrants.
No question that a big portion
of the right loves that right.
But they didn't vote for the war.
That's clear.
And I. Hey, MAGA, if you voted for Marines
[00:19:37]
in the streets, don't ever warn us
about tyrannical government again.
Because what would tyrannical government
do first to control the population?
They would put
the military in the streets.
Literally.
Every banana republic that has a dictator.
[00:19:54]
That's step one.
So here we are, right in the beginning
of the Trump administration,
and he immediately goes to step one.
No, no, this is unsettling.
And he will pay
a heavy political price for this.
