Abbe Lowell said that his client Hunter Biden will testify in front of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, under one condition.
- 12 minutes
Is a Fox News alert.
Now, a bit of a surprise.
Hunter Biden is offering to testify
at a public hearing as part
of the impeachment inquiry into his dad.
That's according to a letter
from his attorney just obtained by Fox.
Hunter's already scheduled to appear for
a closed door deposition on December 13th.
[00:00:18]
Keep it on Fox for the latest.
He's got a new.
He's got a new strategy.
Attack, attack, attack!
He's trying to sue everybody.
Hunter Biden has gone from playing defense
to now going on the offense against
House Republicans who have been obsessed
with investigating him in an effort
[00:00:37]
to tie his business deals to Joe Biden,
allegedly engaging in shady business deals
and profiting off of them.
Now, there has been absolutely
no evidence provided to make that case.
The allegations against President Joe
Biden, who many of you know,
[00:00:53]
I don't have a lot of love for, has just
been unfounded, absolutely unfounded.
And it's been embarrassing
for House Republicans
who have latched on to this issue.
So what is Hunter Biden
doing differently now?
Well, apparently his lawyers have declared
that Hunter Biden is, in fact, willing
[00:01:09]
to answer some questions before the House
Oversight Committee on December 13th.
But there's a catch.
Rather than doing a closed door hearing,
he wants a public hearing before the
American people, which I think is great.
That's transparent.
[00:01:26]
The American people should be
able to see these proceedings.
Earlier this month, the Republican led
House Oversight Committee
subpoenaed Hunter and James Biden,
President Joe Biden's son and brother,
setting up a highly anticipated showdown
as House Republicans continue to search
[00:01:42]
for whether the president committed an
impeachable offense in connection
to his family's foreign business dealings.
A high bar they have yet to meet.
Now, this is the first time
that the panel has directly subpoenaed
members of the Biden family.
[00:02:00]
Republicans allegations of corruption
by the Bidens is still unfounded.
They haven't provided any evidence.
Let me be clear.
Is it feasible?
Is it is it impossible for Joe Biden
[00:02:15]
to have committed a crime of corruption?
No, I don't I don't think it's impossible,
which is why I've been open minded
to these allegations.
It's just that you have
to provide evidence of the allegations.
Remember several months ago, James Comer,
Republican James Comer and other members
[00:02:32]
of the House Oversight Committee
were dancing around super jubilant
about a Hunter Biden business partner
agreeing to give them information and
testimony about these business dealings.
And you want to know what he said to them?
No, there's absolutely no evidence.
[00:02:49]
I've seen no indication
that President Biden benefited or profited
from foreign business dealings
that Hunter Biden engaged in.
James Comer didn't even show up to his
testimony because he knew it was bunk.
[00:03:05]
He knew there was nothing there.
But let me give you more on this.
So Republicans have essentially fallen
flat in their efforts to connect Joe Biden
to the money that his son, Hunter Biden,
made from China and elsewhere
through these foreign business deals.
[00:03:20]
Abe Lowell, who was one of Hunter Biden's
attorneys, actually tore into House
Republicans, calling their efforts
a political stunt riddled with discredited
conspiracies about the Biden family.
He says, quote, here we are, 11 months
into your so-called investigation, and
[00:03:37]
every objective review of your revelations
includes, including by some of your
colleagues, has declared your exploration
as one turning up only dry holes.
Your committee has been working
for almost a year, without success,
[00:03:53]
to tie our client's business activities
to his father.
Committee chairman,
Representative James Comer.
You know, the guy who couldn't be bothered
to show up to the hearing with
the former Hunter Biden business partner.
That guy.
He's the guy who issued the subpoena.
[00:04:11]
He previously said that Hunter Biden's
testimony was needed to determine
the extent that Joe Biden knew and was
involved in, and benefited from his
family's influence peddling schemes.
But apparently, that testimony ain't
that important if Hunter Biden insists
[00:04:30]
on providing that testimony publicly.
Abloh says, Mr. Chairman,
we take you up on your offer accordingly.
Our client will get right to it
by agreeing to answer
any pertinent and relevant questions
you or your colleagues might have.
[00:04:47]
But rather than subscribing
to your cloaked, one sided process, we.
He will appear at a Public Oversight
and Accountability Committee hearing.
Lowell also mentioned the reason
why they want to do this publicly.
[00:05:02]
They're concerned about Republicans
engaging in selective leaks
if these hearings are done privately.
Manipulated transcripts, doctored
exhibits, and one sided press statements.
Lowell says, quote, your
empty investigation has gone on too long,
[00:05:18]
wasting too many better used resources.
It should come to an end.
Consequently, Mr. Biden will appear
at such a public hearing
on the date you noticed December 13th, or
any date in December that we can arrange.
[00:05:34]
And guess what?
The Republicans in the House Oversight
Committee, they don't want it.
They don't want the public hearing. Okay.
Is like, yeah, we'll eventually
maybe do a public hearing, but we're not
going to let Hunter Biden set the rules.
We want this to be privately done
so we can manipulate the the narrative
[00:05:53]
to the American people,
misinformed Republican voters.
So they're under the impression
that there's all this evidence,
a mountain of evidence that Hunter Biden
profited off of these foreign deals
that Hunter Biden was engaged in.
It's so embarrassing, guys.
And look, I don't I don't I don't
care about the Bidens at all, okay?
[00:06:09]
I don't care if Hunter Biden, Joe Biden,
all of them are found guilty
of corruption and imprisoned.
I don't care, I really don't.
What I do care about is the endless
illusion of governance from both parties,
the endless engagements
and investigations that do nothing
[00:06:26]
for the American people at all.
It just gives you the illusion
that they're doing their jobs.
In reality, they are not doing their jobs.
They're wasting their time
twiddling their thumbs, engaging
in politically motivated investigations.
And I'm sick of it was
what are your thoughts on this?
[00:06:45]
Everything seems
to be for effect with these guys.
Everything seems to be a PR stunt
and sadly, this isn't new.
Those of us who are old enough
to remember the Clinton administration,
Whitewater, the shade, the quote unquote
shady dealings at the Mena airport.
[00:07:01]
This is before they basically chased
his penis up and down the Beltway
with the Monica Lewinsky scandal.
We had that.
Fortunately for Barack Obama,
the one thing that you can say about
that guy, he kept his nose extra clean
while he was in Washington.
[00:07:17]
And so there were no scandals.
They couldn't bring him up on
investigations or any anything like that.
The closest they got was a tan suit.
And now Joe Biden being the latest.
But no, you know what they got Hillary
Clinton guys remember Benghazi I do.
[00:07:32]
You've never heard it since like as soon
as that thing was over, as soon as she
was out of state, it never came up again.
Nobody cares about it.
That was the last witch hunt
that we saw from these guys.
And now they got this with Hunter Biden,
which, again, it's not as if they're
[00:07:48]
questioning the premise that the children
of prominent and influential people
get to basically use their proximity
to that influence to get
very plum jobs abroad and domestically.
Right.
Like they're not even attacking
that as a premise because they can't.
[00:08:06]
That's part of the perks
of being a politician that your kids
and the people around you get to benefit
from your proximity to power.
They're claiming something that they
probably more than likely cannot prove,
which is that Joe Biden
was making money off of Hunter
[00:08:22]
Biden's ridiculous job in the Ukraine.
Yeah, you're absolutely right about that.
And again, like, it's so frustrating that
as the United States crumbles for various
reasons, we've got so many problems.
You have those in positions of power
wasting their time
[00:08:39]
with politically motivated investigations.
And I love that you went back
to the Clinton administration
because you're absolutely right.
I mean, that was a politically motivated
impeachment process, and it actually
ended up hurting the Republican Party
because the American public
looked at what was going on.
And they're like, I don't know, man.
They're they're getting way too involved
in the president's personal life.
[00:09:00]
And this doesn't really do it for us.
But I want to go back to the reactions
from conservatives in regard to this new
strategy by Hunter Biden and his lawyer,
because apparently Fox News is very upset
[00:09:15]
at Hunter Biden's insistence that
this be a public and transparent process.
Let's watch.
I agree that I prefer hearings to be done
behind closed doors, because I think
that they actually get to the heart of the
matter and they get some truth, and they
[00:09:31]
can ask questions without preening for
the camera, without all the grandstanding.
That is my preference.
And for for Abbe Lowell, his attorney, to
say, well, you all use that to misinform
and to distort the facts.
Well, you know what?
You can do that too, Abbe.
After he comes out of his closed
door session, you feel free to knock
[00:09:48]
yourself out and you can distort to.
I mean, it's it's it's a silly argument
and and Comber has said, fine, sit,
sit before us publicly a public hearing.
We'll do that later.
We want the closed door one first.
And I think that's totally,
totally appropriate.
Hunter Biden would love nothing more
than to sit, have cameras pointed at him
[00:10:06]
and try to generate the narrative
that he wants to to form.
And I think it's proper and right
that you're right.
He gets he gets to do another one maybe
on 60 minutes or wherever he wants to go.
I don't know about you guys,
but I, as an American, love it when these
[00:10:22]
kinds of hearings and investigations
are done behind our backs, behind closed
doors, concealed from the public.
I like to be kept in the dark.
I don't know about you.
- What do you think was.
- Just the height of absurdity?
That somehow closed door hearings
are more transparent than actually
[00:10:40]
people getting to see for themselves?
Like, I'm sorry, the American people
deserve to watch these clowns
ask their ridiculous questions.
See their posture. See?
See the tone
in which they ask these questions.
And honestly, judge Hunter
Biden's answers for what they are.
[00:10:58]
I think it's obvious that a public hearing
is way more transparent than as.
By the way, like a lot of people at home
who don't care about sports
wouldn't know this.
But that was Michele Tafoya up there.
She's she's from the sports world.
She actually ended up getting canceled
a few years back for like being like I
[00:11:18]
forget what she was right wing about,
but it's just crazy to see her end up on
Fox News right here, because she was like
a really respected, sports media person.
And then she came out, like,
came out the closet as a right winger and,
and ruined her career that way.
And now she's on Fox and Friends.
This is kind of funny.
[00:11:35]
And now this is what she does.
She's basically saying
that the actual transparent thing to do
is to hide everything from the public.
It's insane. But I love that that context.
I actually was not familiar with her,
and so I enjoy her fall from grace
and seeing her on Fox News.
[00:11:52]
Yeah, it's.
The first time I've seen her
like outside of the context of like Monday
Night Football or something like this
is kind of it's kind of jarring, honestly.
Well, look.
Considering the fact that she got
canceled, I can understand why she likes
to do things behind closed doors.
Yes.
