But to say, we're not going to give you disaster funding for a hurricane or tornadoes or a flood or an earthquake or wildfires, which then hurts everybody in the state because those state leaders boycott Israel. Earlier this week, the Trump administration announced that any state or [00:00:33] city that boycotts Israel or Israeli based companies would be denied taxpayer funded disaster relief funds through FEMA. And luckily, that led to so much outrage among Trump's own base that it does appear that they've reversed course. [00:00:53] Now, before we get to their reactions, it's actually worth checking in on the state of Massachusetts, which was not deterred by Donald Trump's threats at all, and I commend them for that. So. HuffPost reports that the Medford City Council in Massachusetts passed an [00:01:11] ordinance divesting from companies contributing to Israel's genocide in Gaza. The Medford City Council passed the Values Aligned Local Investments Ordinance on Tuesday evening, making Massachusetts the third state after Michigan and Maine, where a [00:01:28] municipality has barred investments in companies that profit from a conflict. Many experts have now labeled a genocide, including two human rights groups in Israel. By the way, they have labeled it a genocide. [00:01:44] Now, Dearborn, Michigan and Portland, Maine are the other two cities that have divested from Israel. Dearborn passed their ordinance in October of 2024, and Portland, Maine passed theirs in September of 2024. Medford introduced its ordinance in June, expanding on Boston's landmark [00:02:04] 2021 fossil fuel divestment to also bar funds or public funds from being invested in weapons manufacturers, prisons and other entities contributing to international human rights violations like displacement, war crimes, apartheid, ethnic cleansing, and illegal occupation. [00:02:24] And while this motion was introduced in June, the timing of its passage, which was Tuesday night of this week, you know, immediately followed the Trump's Trump administration's threats in regard to FEMA funding. So it made the timing, the timing made this decision [00:02:41] even more relevant, in my view. Right. Because it shows, no, no, no, we're not going to take your threats. We're going to do what we believe is the right thing. Supporters of Medford's ordinance say its language is also meant to apply to companies complicit in mass deportation, incarceration and [00:02:56] inhumane treatment of immigrants by Ice. Medford and its city council seems absolutely fantastic, and I'm about to tell you that the other people who are part of this story who are fantastic, happen to be Trump supporters who have been lashing out against Trump's actions [00:03:15] as it pertains to supporting Israel. [00:11:17] Writing this there is no FEMA requirement tied to Israel in any current nofo meaning notice, no states have lost funding and no new conditions have been imposed. FEMA grants remain governed by existing law and policy [00:11:34] and not political litmus tests. DHS will enforce all anti-discrimination laws and policies, including as it relates to the BDS movement, which is expressly grounded in anti-Semitism. Shut up. - It's no. - It's not okay. [00:11:50] So when they boycotted Bud Light, Does that mean that these conservative Americans were treasonous? Were they anti-American? No, they're not anti-American. They have their own political views. They didn't like that Bud light wanted to celebrate a transgender TikTok creator, [00:12:08] and they had a, you know, total meltdown over it. It's their right to have a meltdown over. It doesn't mean they're anti-American.
