Trump's New Policy Promise Is Raising Eyebrows
Former President Donald Trump promised to make interest paid on car loans fully tax deductible.
- 8 minutes
Today, I am also announcing
that as part of our tax cuts, we will make
interest on car loans fully deductible.
That's going
to revolutionize your industry.
This will stimulate massive domestic auto
production and make car ownership
[00:00:19]
dramatically more affordable for millions
and millions of working American families.
This is a phenomenal thing.
During a campaign stop
in Michigan Detroit, to be specific,
Donald Trump decided to propose a specific
[00:00:35]
economic proposal directed at consumers
who are purchasing vehicles.
Now, as we know, car prices
have gone up significantly.
The car industry was impacted by inflation
and we have high interest rates,
meaning that taking out loans in order to
finance a car is far more expensive today
[00:00:54]
compared to just a few years ago.
And so as a result, Donald Trump is
proposing that car loan interests
be deductible for Americans, Which I
think is actually a really good policy.
And if you think
that this is novel, it's not.
[00:01:10]
The United States actually had this tax
break and decided to end it in 1986,
in order to simplify our tax code.
But notice how they got rid of a deduction
that ordinary Americans would benefit from
to simplify their tax code.
[00:01:25]
Now, he said that it will make
car ownership dramatically more affordable
for millions and millions
of working American families.
And there is some truth to that,
especially when it comes to Americans
who were unfortunate enough
to take out a car loan that was subprime.
That was something that's been
going on in the car industry.
[00:01:43]
And so when interest rates shoot up,
the interest rate for that car loan
also shoots up, which is why there's been
a prevalence of Americans
unable to make their car payments.
But I am curious
what you think about this, Jake.
Yeah.
So first of all,
I don't believe him at all.
[00:01:58]
He's not going to do any of these
tax breaks except the corporate one.
He's going to definitely do that one
because that's what he did last time.
He didn't give you guys a single thing
when he was in office last time.
But he gave corporations the biggest
tax cut in United States history.
So it's total BS.
Don't believe him for a second.
Having said that,
it's obviously smart politics.
[00:02:16]
It's old school politics.
The type of politics that both corporate
Democrats and Republicans forgot about.
So it's a politician going, yeah,
pot chicken in every pot right there.
Oprah and Tyra.
You get a tax cut, you get a tax cut.
Tip workers. You get a tax cut.
[00:02:33]
You got an auto loan. What we all do.
You get a tax cut right.
And appeals to the average guy.
It doesn't matter
if it's true or not true.
You just say it
so that you get all those voters.
Wow, that's so complicated.
Meanwhile, Kamala Harris
is assuring business interests that she
[00:02:50]
won't harm their interests at all.
Yeah, there's seven of them.
Yeah, I know they're super rich and they.
But they already gave you $1 billion.
You don't need their money anymore.
There's only 25 days left.
So turn around and promise things
to the average American.
And the reason that establishment
Democrats and Republicans
[00:03:05]
are not used to doing that.
And they they don't understand, like basic
elementary politics is because they're
in rooms with donors 24 over seven.
And so they think the whole world
is filled with super rich people
who love corporate giveaways,
hate anything that helps the average
[00:03:24]
American so they can't see straight.
So this is obviously
correct political strategy by Trump.
Yeah.
And you know, a few weeks ago,
or maybe it was last week, I was doing
a story about Kamala Harris's pivot in her
campaigning to attract business interests
and also disaffected Republicans.
[00:03:41]
And I said, you know, one of the things
that she needs to do more is specific
policies to improve Americans lives.
And people get really upset when you say
that because they think, well, Trump never
says anything specific or substantive.
[00:03:57]
There's no policy discussion with Trump.
But, guys, you have to put your disdain
for Trump aside and actually listen
to what he says during these rallies.
He does make specific proposals.
Whether or not you believe
he's actually going to pursue
those proposals is another thing.
But no tax on tips.
[00:04:12]
It's a simple, easy to understand policy
that he just put out there.
No tax on overtime.
Again, another policy that would
positively impact working class people.
Now you have tax deduction on your
auto loan interest a specific policy.
[00:04:30]
He's not he's not putting out these
nebulous like, you know, statements.
He is being very specific.
And he is specifically saying things
that would attract working class voters.
Okay, I need Democratic voters and viewers
to understand there's something there's
[00:04:48]
different between analysis and perspective
and opinion analysis.
This is what I think is going to happen,
whether I like it or not.
And then here's what I want to happen.
This is the opinion that I have.
Right.
So our analysis is that this is
good politics on Trump's part.
[00:05:04]
It doesn't mean that we believe him.
It doesn't mean that we like him
or that we want him to win.
That is such an easy, easy concept.
But unfortunately,
because mainstream media
has programed people, if you like someone,
you always say nice things about them.
It doesn't matter if it's true.
[00:05:19]
If you're voting against the other person,
you have to say everything is terrible
about him and no matter what,
so that people are used to like, wait, oh,
so you said something positive about Trump
that he's using good political strategy.
That must mean you love Donald Trump.
No, no.
If you want to beat him,
you have to understand what makes him tick
[00:05:37]
and what works and what doesn't work.
I have to explain these super simple
concepts because of the mass brainwashing
mainstream media has done
to keep us separated
and in our different groups here.
I got to say though,
the no tax on tips and no tax on overtime.
[00:05:54]
I'm super skeptical
that he'll actually pursue that with this.
I think that there would be
a possibility he would.
And this is the reason why this is
something that wouldn't just benefit
the consumers, that would need to take
out auto loans in order to buy a car.
It would also benefit the auto industry,
because it would make financing a vehicle
[00:06:12]
a lot more affordable
for ordinary Americans.
So if it stimulates the auto industry,
that could be something that,
you know, motivates politics.
And I just realized why this tax break
rather than other tax breaks.
Yeah, because he's handing them out
like candy.
[00:06:27]
All these promises.
And while you're right that it might
happen, who's a giant automaker?
Tesla, who is now the largest donor
to Donald Trump.
Elon Musk.
Exactly. So she's right.
This one might happen
not because it benefits you,
[00:06:44]
but because it benefits his biggest donor.
Exactly. Yeah.
And so okay,
this America is in such bad shape, man.
Everything is geared around the donors,
whether they're Republicans or Democrats.
Keep it real if you think
that they're trying to help you.
[00:07:00]
Oh, my God, you're so naive.
It's so sad to see.
I it breaks my heart.
Please hold these people
accountable on both sides.
Now look, I don't again
I don't want Donald Trump winning.
I think he's deranged.
He now he's talking about arresting people
at CBS because he didn't like the way
[00:07:17]
they edited an interview.
And he's for freedom
and freedom of speech.
No, I don't want that guy in charge.
But and he does projection.
So remember when they were like,
oh yeah, the Democrats, they just want
to give everything away, right?
Like Obama phones.
[00:07:32]
Oh, they're going to give phones to all
black people because of Obama, right.
And what are they doing
right before the election?
You get a tax break, you get a tax break,
basically, Brian, I mean, Elon Musk
is talking about giving you $47 for every
for a single person that you register.
They're flooding it with money
and with goodies.
[00:07:50]
I don't they're not going to do
the overwhelming majority,
but you must counteract them.
If you don't, then come
in as more populist, you're going to lose.
So you what is populist means mean?
It doesn't mean something evil.
[00:08:07]
It doesn't mean good intent or bad intent.
It means things that appeal
to the average person.
God.
They've lost track
of the most elementary politics.
They're so blinded by their love of donors
that they can't see straight.
