WATCH: Gospel Artist Nearly Booted Off Flight For Singing
Gospel singer Bobbi Storm may be up for two grammys, but a flight attendant wasn't having her mid-flight performance.
- 9 minutes
Up and down, but the seatbelt signs off.
The bell sounds. It's not a disturbance.
[00:00:15]
Once you. Once you hear.
It's right here, babe.
Okay, have a seat. I am.
Okay, so watch me. Blessing.
So I used this thing on planes
a long time ago.
- I just found out I'm up for two Grammys.
- My very first time, you guys.
[00:00:30]
Gospel singer Bobby Storm, who discovered
that she had been nominated for two
Grammys and she wanted to celebrate.
So she decided to announce the news to the
entire plane and then sing them her song.
But a member of the flight crew
wasn't having it, and basically repeatedly
[00:00:48]
told her to sit down and be quiet.
Now, storm was a vocalist on Maverick City
Music's latest Grammy nominated album.
The band is a Christian singing group
nominated for Best Gospel Album and Best
Contemporary Christian Music Performance.
Slash song.
[00:01:04]
She posted the 4.5 minute video
to her own Instagram account.
And here's what happened next.
My name is Bobby Saum
and I'm up for two Grammys.
I sing for the Lord
and my song is out on all platforms.
- It's called We Can't Forget Him.
- I want to share this with you guys.
[00:01:21]
I wanted to do it when I first got
on the plane, but I was like, you know,
I haven't done this in a while.
- I've gotten to the next status.
- So are you going to be quiet?
What? They're enjoying it.
So while we're sitting here,
could I please.
I'm not enjoying it.
So I'm asking you,
can you be quiet while I say yes or no?
[00:01:38]
Answer, please.
Am I going to go to jail if I don't?
Can you please answer my question?
Are you willing and able
to be quiet right now?
I'm doing what the Lord
is telling me to do.
I'm asking you a question. Yes or no?
I'm your flight leader.
I need you to follow my instructions.
My instructions
for you to answer my question.
- Are you able to be quiet?
- What do you guys think?
[00:01:56]
I'm asking you, ma'am. I'm asking you guys.
What do you guys think?
Okay, if you're not able to be
to follow my instructions,
you will not be taking this flight.
Okay. Are you able to be quiet?
- If that's the case.
- Then that's fine.
If that's the case, then that's fine.
The flight attendant walks away
and you think that's it?
[00:02:12]
It's over. It's done.
She gets it. Everything's fine.
Except it wasn't.
Let's watch the last thing.
And on the note for y'all in the back.
If that's okay.
All right, so the song is called
We Can't Forget Them.
All right. And you can download it.
[00:02:29]
I don't know the issue.
No one else has ever had an issue,
but it's I. For each day of my life.
I realize.
[00:02:45]
I don't need anything. I'ma need you.
That went on for another minute. Okay.
Then she proceeded
to let everyone on that plane know
about her relationship with God.
Thank God.
I mean, everyone was
super curious about it.
So here's a little taste of that.
[00:03:02]
I'm here to spring it
with God needs me to spread.
I'm here to spread that because that's
what's gotten me where I am.
I quit my job.
In October of last year,
and I just went out by faith.
And now here I am. So remember this face.
And chase the storm. All right, y'all.
[00:03:19]
Storm like the weather. Thank you guys.
Should just go to prison.
Okay. No, don't do that.
I'm kidding. Obviously.
But please don't do this.
Don't do this to people.
Don't. Don't sing to people
[00:03:36]
in who are held captive in in the sky.
They have nowhere to go.
They have nowhere to escape.
There's nothing more awkward
than someone singing to you.
Yeah, I. Have many stories, so. Okay.
- There are many.
- Stories.
Many stories about this. Okay, okay.
Number one, this is unbelievable.
But that guy was my flight leader.
[00:03:56]
No, it just like a week ago.
I'm not kidding.
Like a week or two weeks ago.
That guy.
Because number one, I.
I not only recognize his face,
but I recognize his voice.
Okay.
And and number two,
he was cranky on our flight.
- Oh, he's.
- He's.
[00:04:11]
He wasn't having anything on our flight.
And he stepped out of bounds.
- The flight leader was on it.
- No, I love it.
- He loved.
- This.
No, I. Love I love grumpy people.
You know that grumpy people
speak to my heart.
So I feel like, I don't know,
we would vibe.
We would definitely vibe.
We would get each other for sure because.
[00:04:28]
- But he was like a type A regulator.
- No. God love him so much.
So much. God, can you run for president?
Like, well, there was somebody
on that flight anyway, so.
But I knew not to mess
with the flight leader.
[00:04:45]
Okay?
That guy I knew, I swear,
I thought that guy is trouble.
I'm not getting any.
I'm not stepping an inch out of the lines
here because he's going to regulate.
So that's my perspective on it.
But now back to her guys.
This is where I agree with Anna.
Don't sing to people.
[00:05:00]
Don't do it okay. And I've seen it happen.
And it's so awkward.
Like I knew a guy who used to date a girl
who would sing to him all the time,
and she'd be like, la da da da da.
And he's like, no, no, no, no.
I was like, trying to avert my eyes like,
don't, please, please.
[00:05:16]
She do it in front of other people.
Don't, don't.
So awkward. So unbelievable.
Okay.
Now for her.
I don't know why she was doing it.
I don't know if her friend was taping
because this kind of creates
excellent hype for her.
- If we're.
- Being honest.
Devastating. And you're being.
[00:05:31]
Yeah, you're right, you're right.
You think this was a publicity stunt?
I don't know, but I know
that if you get kicked off the plane,
it creates a lot of buzz.
And here we are talking about it.
And so either you get to sing to the plane
and I guess that's a win, right?
[00:05:47]
And then you put it up on your Instagram
anyway, or you get kicked off the plane.
That creates a news story.
That's even I never heard
of Bobby Storm before.
And here we are talking about Bobby Story.
Now you're totally going to buy her album.
You know, you've been like dying
to hear gospel music.
That's a little less likely,
but there are a lot of gospel fans
[00:06:04]
who just heard it right.
And by the way, her voice wasn't that bad,
to be honest.
No, she had a great voice.
That's not the problem.
The problem is people are on a flight.
That's already tortuous enough, forcing
people to listen to you sing on a flight
where they have no escape is unacceptable.
[00:06:21]
Yeah, and guys understand
that my hype theory is just a theory.
It could be that she's like my dad.
My dad will go to any place
and be like, my son is talkshow host.
You have to listen to Young Turks.
And he wears the tight hat and stuff.
And so you never know.
Maybe she's just a hype machine.
[00:06:39]
Or maybe she's just genuinely excited
because she got nominated for a Grammy.
Now, my ultimate conclusion, though,
on whether, like,
she should have been kicked off the plane,
is, nah, don't kick her off.
Well, she wasn't, you know, she could have
if she continued going against
what the flight attendant
advised her to avoid doing.
[00:06:55]
She said that she declared in her
comments section of that Instagram video
that she has sang on over 50 flights.
There were no laws broken here.
I can't believe she did that
to that many people stuck on flights.
[00:07:13]
Like, if it is true,
not everyone wants to hear you sing.
Do you have a beautiful voice?
Not everyone, like people want to listen
to their movies or whatever they're
entertained by on that flight.
They don't want to listen to you sing.
Maybe they don't like gospel music.
A lot of people don't.
It's okay. Just sing.
[00:07:29]
When you have an audience
that's interested in hearing you sing.
Yeah, yeah.
Overall, don't sing to people.
But I'm also not going to take action.
If you do, I'm going
to be I'm going to survive.
By the way, like
like the other way to go, by the way,
is if you don't start singing.
[00:07:46]
Not her.
She's got a great voice,
but someone that's bothering you, right.
Or that bothers you for whatever reason.
It's called AirPods.
I put them in. I listen to my own music.
Yeah, but you can still hear.
Even with the aux noise canceling
headphones, you can still hear stuff.
[00:08:03]
And if she's being intentionally
and brazenly disruptive
and loud and defiant, you're going to hear
her singing even through your AirPods.
- Oh, I got.
- A great idea.
You know what? She's inspiring me.
Next slide I'm going on.
I'm just doing a talk show.
[00:08:19]
She's doing her thing. I'm doing my thing.
I just go on the plane.
Well, the Young Turks, everybody.
Now, let me tell you what's wrong
with Trump and Biden.
Oh my God.
Can you imagine I think
that might start a fight.
Like physical altercation on a flight.
There's something else that happens.
[00:08:35]
And I feel like this is
more socially accepted.
And I don't understand
why it shouldn't be socially accepted.
When people have either like a boombox
or like a Bluetooth speaker,
and they insist on playing their music
for everyone to hear.
[00:08:50]
- Yeah, not only is that unacceptable, it.
- Makes me crazy.

Is that the people that are now talking
on the phone like this, it's on speaker
[00:09:06]
and they're like, hey, and they're
walking through the streets, right?
Yep. FaceTiming in public.
Yeah.
But FaceTiming, at least I can
understand a little bit better
because there's some utility in it.
But this is when you're just doing audio.
You're basically saying, I want everyone
to hear my conversation, even though you
[00:09:21]
didn't ask to be part of my conversation.
And I think that that's an extra layer
of obnoxious, because now we're
hearing both sides, and then you can't
help but be distracted and then wondering,
why am I in this person's life?
How did this happen to me
that I'm stuck in this person's life
[00:09:38]
and dealing with her drama?
