Donald Trump is saying that he's going to review
Iran's new peace proposal. He posted on Trisosial,
I will soon be reviewing the plan that they've
sent, but can't imagine that it would be acceptable
in that they have not yet paid a big enough
price for what they've done to capital H humanity
[00:00:15]
and the capital W world over the last 47 years.
Thank you for your attention this matter.
So they haven't paid enough price, which that's
how wars are supposed to end. It's whether
one deranged decaying leader thinks the other
side hasn't paid a price. Even though supposedly
[00:00:32]
according to Trump, they lost their leader,
they lost their Navy, they lost their Air Force,
they lost their air defenses, they can't rebuild
for 20 years. We killed a bunch of their schoolgirls.
I feel like they've paid a pretty high price,
however you slice it, but not enough for Donald
[00:00:50]
Trump. So we must remain. possibly the dumbest
war in American history for longer. And you
and your family should continue to pay more
not only for gas, but for every product that's
transported with gas, which is basically all
of the products. Because he doesn't feel like
they've paid enough of a price yet. Well,
that said, let's try to figure out what we
[00:01:09]
think of the plan at the very least, supposedly
according to NPR. Key points of the plan include
a demand to resolve all issues and end the war
within 30 days, which would be great. Instead
of observing a two month ceasefire as the US
had proposed, other demands listed by the Iranian
outlets include guarantees against future military
aggression, which you can't have those with
[00:01:29]
Trump. There's no deal he can sign that you
would have any reason to trust past the moment
it's signed. But sure, get it in writing if
you can. The withdrawal of US forces from Iran's
periphery, so out of the straight of Hormuz,
an end to the naval blockade, obviously. The
[00:01:44]
release of frozen Iranian assets, payment of
reparations, the lifting of sanctions. an end
to fighting in Lebanon, and a new mechanism
governing the Strait of Hormuz. That last point
is obviously very vague. What is the new mechanism
governing the Strait of Hormuz? If they want
[00:02:00]
to continue to have control over it, I'm imagining
Trump is not gonna find that to be acceptable.
It might also be necessary. And one of the
stupidest consequences of this stupid war is
that it might actually end with Iran being permanently
in control of the Strait of Hormuz. In terms
[00:02:15]
of the unfreezing assets, payment of reparations,
the lifting of sanctions, some combination
of those things is likely to happen as part
of the final deal. And it kind of even makes
sense that it would, but just bear in mind,
that is one of the main things that the right
[00:02:31]
performatively had an issue with the JCPOA negotiated
back by Barack Obama. And it looks like we're
going to have a new version of it. Now you'll
notice, of course, Yaz, there's nothing about
nuclear deaths. missiles or future testing
or enrichment or anything in there. So I do
[00:02:47]
feel confident predicting that Donald Trump
is not going to accept it, cost or otherwise.
What do you think? Yeah, no, I'm not confident
that he's going to accept any of this. And
it is frustrating because we did have an Iranian
nuclear deal in place whenever Trump, I'm sorry,
when Obama was president. And that included
the lifting of the sanctions and then they
[00:03:06]
weren't able to enrich and blah, blah. And Trump
said this is a terrible deal. He pulled out
of it almost immediately once he took office
during his first term, and he never replaced
it with anything. So now it looks like we're
on track to getting a second version of the
[00:03:21]
Iranian nuclear deal. It looks as though it's
probably going to be a little bit weaker than
the first one that we had. uh But it took Trump
all this time to finally replace it with something
or even get around to talking about replacing
it with something. And in the meantime, so
many people have already died. So much destruction
has already happened. The entire global economy
[00:03:42]
has been thrown into flux because just so Trump
could circle all the way back around to get
us back somewhere close to where we were. In
the meantime though, Israel was able to accomplish
quite a bit, right? They were able to make a
lot of moves in Gaza without having to worry
about Iran on their back. They were able to
move into Lebanon now without having to worry
[00:04:01]
so much about Iran being on their back, right?
So they were able to accomplish quite a bit.
because of Donald Trump. And also just one
more thing, when we talk about geopolitics,
the geo part of that is very important. We
can't leave that out, the geography informs
[00:04:19]
the politics. And this whole thing seems kind
of like Trump is just mad at geography. He's
mad that Iran just happens to be right there
by the street. So geopolitically, they have
an advantage there. And I don't know how you
win that. I don't know how you beat geography
[00:04:35]
into submission because usually that doesn't
work out very well for people. Yeah, well,
I mean, Trump is implying that we'll just take
control of it. Yeah. I mean, good luck. Obviously
not feasible. But yeah, no, you're totally right
about some of the consequences that are already
true on the ground. You're dead right about
that, as you so often are about matters of
[00:04:53]
politics, but not pop culture. But I would also
point out that regardless of whatever happens,
and this is my last point, we could end the
war tomorrow. We could end the war in six months.
We could control, they could control, whatever.
The oil companies have already made massive
[00:05:08]
profits. They have already made a massive return
on the investment they put into electing Donald
Trump multiple times over and maybe forever.
Maybe the oil prices never go down again. So
you might be screwed until the end of your days,
but they are making off like the bandits that
they are.
