Are Cops Paid Too Much?

It's no secret that police unions are some of the most powerful organizations in the United States. For better or worse, they have been able to secure higher salaries, job security, and good pensions for their members, even as the power of other unions fades away.

According to Forbes, the average California police officer makes $105,220. As of 2019 in one New Jersey town, overtime had multiple officers making over $250,000. Even Derek Chauvin, who killed George Floyd, is reportedly eligible for a $1 Million pension.

Do cops get paid too much? Or do they simply make whatever the unions are able to negotiate for them? We ask you...
