Assault Weapons Ban
The Boulder City Council voted unanimously in May 2018 to ban the sale of assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. But on March 12, Boulder County District Court Judge Andrew Hartman ruled that the city couldn’t enforce the ban because Colorado state law preempted the city’s ordinance. But if the ban was still in place in a state where those weapons are legal, would it have had any effect?
