Are you disabled? Yes or no? At that moment, when you're pregnant, I'm very disabled. You want me to tell you the things I can't do? Fine. What was your. What was your disability on February 24th of 2018. What was your disability? [00:00:15] I was pregnant, I couldn't protect myself even if I wanted to. - She's like twice my size. - No problem, no problem. When I'm talking to you now, are we having a verbal altercation? We have a debate. [00:00:32] I gotta say, whether it's the jury or people just viewing this civil case that Cardi B was involved in, everyone seemed to kind of love her based on the reaction to her testimony on the stand. But this week, the rapper Cardi B won a civil assault trial [00:00:48] that was filed against her. It was brought by a former security guard. And by those first two clips that we just watched, you can see just how insane the trial actually was. So we'll get into more of the highlights and the videos in just a minute. But first, let me give you a little bit of the context [00:01:04] and what this trial was really about. So Cardi B, whose real name I'm not even going to attempt to pronounce, even though I practiced was sued by a woman named Amani Ellis. So Ellis was suing Cardi for allegedly, cutting her face with her fingernail. [00:01:21] That was the allegation in the hallway of a Beverly Hills, Obstetrician's office. This allegedly happened all the way back in 2018. Now, in her original complaint, Ellis accused Cardi of attacking her, spitting on her and using racial slurs against her. [00:01:39] She also claimed the alleged altercation and Cardi's celebrity status got her fired. But as the trial started last week, Ellis's lawyer, Ron Rosen, John Faza, confirmed his client had actually dropped the claims relating to her being fired. [00:01:57] He also alleged that his client was abused, she was harmed. She was assaulted and battered by Cardi B and Cardi B needs to pay for that. So Cardi maintained throughout the entirety of this that, you know, the only thing that happened was a verbal altercation that she [00:02:15] never put her hands on Ellis at all. However, the two did get into a heated argument after, as Cardi claims Ellis followed her and filmed her in the doctor's office without her permission. At the time, Cardi was pregnant with her first child with rapper offset [00:02:32] and had not told her parents about the pregnancy yet, and so this was really a violation of her privacy. She was upset about it, and she believed that Ellis actions were, you know, a violation of privacy surrounding something sacred. [00:02:48] That's what she said in an interview with rolling Stone. Or that's what rolling Stone reported, I should say. So let's hear a little bit more from Cardi B herself. I could hear her. She was talking on the phone and she said, oh my God, yo, Cardi B is here. [00:03:04] So I kind of speed walked, I speed walked, but I feel her behind me. So I keep telling her, you need to back up. Back up. I'm thinking to myself, like girls big. She's big. She got big black boots on. [00:03:21] I did call her the B word. I did call her a bitch. My face, I did my face. You're in my face. You're screaming in my face. We're like, literally riding. We're literally screaming at each other. And she. And she kept telling me, like, you're going to leave my building. [00:03:38] I'm like, I'm not leaving. Like, how you harassing me? I'm not leaving. Are you telling me how you telling me to leave? I came to see a doctor. You following me? You're recording me? I'm just trying to check my cat. The receptionist came out. [00:03:53] She started like she started. Yelling out like this. Hit me. This hit me, and I'm like, I did not hear that. All right, so what's amazing to me throughout, like, the trial. [00:04:09] And you'll notice this in her testimony. She's like so unbothered. Like, you can tell she has like, her conscience is clear in the way that she carried herself in the testimony. Yeah. Yeah. And she's she's animated. She's she's got some pretty incredible facial expressions as well. [00:04:27] It's amazing. So let me give you the rest of what happened. So, Cardi B's obstetrician and and the obstetricians receptionist both testified as well. That was a big part of this, telling the court that they heard the altercation and that Ellis had her phone in her hands the entire time. [00:04:44] So that corroborates what Cardi B was saying. So during less than one hour of deliberation, all 12 jurors agreed that Cardi B did not physically assault Ellis in any way. Two jurors spoke to rolling Stone following the trial, stating that there wasn't any other way this could go. [00:05:00] Honestly, it was pretty straightforward. We went through the questions and we all agreed. You saw how the case went, we discussed it, we definitely went around and everyone gave opinions, but everyone had the same conclusion there was no assault. [00:05:16] So Cardi B also spoke to the press after the trial was over after she was handed a win. Let's watch. I'm telling you guys, when I say that my forehead is raw from changing all these wigs. Roar roar roar roar roar. [00:05:33] I know you guys are having a little key with the moment, but to be honest with you, I have missed my kid's first day of school today. I missed my kids last day last week of school yesterday because of this. This time around, I'm going to be nice. [00:05:49] The next person to try to do a frivolous lawsuit against me, I'm going to Countersue and I'm going to make you pay. I am not that celeb that you're going to sue and you think it's going to settle. I'm not going to settle. Especially when I'm super, completely innocent. [00:06:05] I know I got a little I know I got a little reputation, but I swear to God I'm innocent. I swear to God, Cardi. Like, like like I'm really innocent for real. It's been really tough. It's been really long night for me. I'm in the middle of an album rollout, so it's been late nights. [00:06:22] Am I the drummer? And early 530 in the morning. Morning. I gotta get Up 530 so I can look like this for y'all. So what I loved about her press conference there is that she talked about frivolous lawsuits, which, look, lawsuits are super expensive to fight. [00:06:39] So if you're a public figure, a lot of people just settle, right? And it sucks because there's all sorts of ambulance chasing lawyers who specifically will take on clients who are engaging in the frivolous lawsuits, knowing that a lot of public figures will just settle. [00:06:57] But she's like, no, I got to nip this in the bud, right? I got to do something about this now and send a message to anyone else who might try to do this in the future, you know? Yeah, I think I have so many thoughts on this. First of all, I'm not an expert on many things, but I am an expert on true crime. [00:07:14] And that jury deliberated for less than an hour. She's innocent. So, like, that's unheard of for a jury to go in the room and be like, guys, what are we doing here? Go back out and clear her of the charges. [00:07:29] Like 100%. And also, anyone coming at you with a camera at an ob gyn. Get the hell out of me. Like that's such a violation of privacy for anybody. I don't want to see anyone I know at any doctor's office, let alone an ob gyn. [00:07:46] And this is a celebrity with something going on personally. And you see someone, a security guard, someone who's supposed to be there to, like, protect you, like, should have your best interests in mind. And, you know, you get scared. So I don't blame her for, like, having the reaction that she did. [00:08:03] In fact, I commend her for having the restraint to not get physical because you're so right that it's very personal. I mean, in this case, Cardi B is pregnant. She hasn't told her family yet. She wants to keep it a secret. You know, for whatever reason, a lot of a lot of women will keep it a secret, [00:08:20] at least in the first trimester. And you have this. This is the thing that's so sick about the situation. You have a security guard who's there to protect people. And instead she saw celebrity and she saw a potential payday. And that's that's pretty gross. [00:08:37] So, now I want to turn to the real reason why I wanted to do this story, which is video of her testimony. And, as, Ellis's attorney was questioning, first of all, Ellis's attorney asked some pretty insane questions on the stand. [00:08:54] You're going to get a little taste of that in the videos that we show. But the way that Cardi B handles it, she's very charismatic. Let's just put it that way. I'm not necessarily in favor of fat shaming. There's a little bit of that going on. I'm just going to warn you guys about it. [00:09:09] In fact, she uses the phrase security heavy at one point, which. I've never heard. That which. Is amazing. Well, let's watch the video. And then if it's not in this video, I'll tell you what it is. So let's watch some of her best responses. [00:09:26] Almanzar. Cardi B or it doesn't matter. I mean, you can call me crazy. I mean, who. Did you call her? Fat? No, I was calling her a bitch. Did you look at Miss Imani Ellis's face when you were arguing with her [00:09:42] at the time of the incident? I was looking at her face, but I wasn't looking like she got a pimple on me. She let her know I wasn't looking at her. I her details or anything. Yesterday you had black hair, short hair, blond and long. [00:09:59] Which one is your real hair? How is that relevant? - It's crazy. - They're wigs. You said she's bigger than you. Is that correct? - Absolutely. - How do you know that? [00:10:14] - Oh my God. - I mean, look. And why were you concerned? Because I'm pregnant and this girl is about to beat my. - Hello? - Hello? Hello. I'm here. When I'm talking to you now. Are we having a verbal altercation? [00:10:33] We haven't. We'll see. A debate? A debate. Oh, God, it's so good. And I think the other thing that really helped in ensuring that the deliberation was going to take very long. You can tell she's super honest on the stand. Did you, you know, did you call her overweight? [00:10:50] No, I called her a bitch. Like that woman's telling the truth. Like it's amazing. I will say the one thing she did to maybe not help. I don't know if the jury knew about this, but today she did throw a pen at somebody outside the courtroom. - Oh my. - God. So, like, I probably wouldn't do that if I'm on, you know, [00:11:06] on the stand in a assault trial. I might like, you know, hold off until after the deliberations to throw a pen at somebody. She's fiery. Like that's why, you know, I didn't know whether or not it was a frivolous lawsuit. [00:11:23] Because she's a fiery person. Like if someone filed a suit against me for scratching their face. I wouldn't blame anyone for, like, a preemptive judgment. Anna probably did it. Like, I'm I get passionate, I get angry, whatever. [00:11:38] I would never put my hands on anyone unless I needed to defend myself. I want to be clear about that. I'm very much against, physical violence. I will accost you verbally, of course. Yeah. I mean, it is what it is, but she's a fiery one. And. Yeah, don't throw the pen. [00:11:54] But other than that, she handled herself well during the trial. And provided excellent content for me. Yes. Definitely. Definitely. I can't believe the the lawyer was asking questions about her wig. What does that have to do with anything? She even he even asked about her nails, like, oh, I don't remember [00:12:12] the exact phrasing he used, but she was like, I would say that they're oval like. Like she's just I love it. She didn't let him get under her skin. And that's super important, especially when you're on the stand. Every time you ring the bell below, an angel gets his wings. [00:12:28] Totally not true. But it does keep you updated on our live shows.
