Jon Voight Unveils His Plan To Help Trump "Rescue Hollywood"

President Trump‘s “special ambassador” to Hollywood, actor Jon Voight, promised to "make films bigger and greater than ever before."
  • 12 minutes
My fellow Americans and my peers of Hollywood. I recently met with our president, Donald J. Trump, who loves the entertainment business, wants to see Hollywood thrive and make films bigger and greater than ever before. [00:00:16] As he says, and see productions come back to American Hollywood, the Hollywood that I fell in love with when I was a child and was honored to contribute to during my career. All right, that was actor Jon Voight on X. He regularly does videos on that platform [00:00:35] for all of his followers, and he's saying that Trump is on board with the initiative to make Hollywood great again because he loves Hollywood. He wants it to be great, just like it was back in his day. Jake, we're going to get into those deets that you promised. But, of course, Trump loves the entertainment industry. [00:00:52] He's an entertainer. Yeah, well, as you'll see in a minute, his crazy rambling reason why he's doing this. He should have been in the movies. I know, dude, everybody knows you want to be famous. Congrats. You are famous. You're the president of the United States for a second time. [00:01:10] But the insecurity continues unabated and the lack of homework continues unabated. Did you talk to experts? Did you talk to movie industry executives? Did you talk to actors? Did you talk to anyone before you imposed a ludicrous 100% tariff? Do you know if that's actually going to help the movie industry [00:01:28] or hurt the movie industry? Here's the amount of homework he's done on it. And you all know it. Even if you're MAGA, you know it. Zero. None. So let's find out what's actually gonna happen. Yeah, well, Trump also has all of his acting credits. He was in Home Alone two. He was in two weeks notice with Sandra Bullock and Hugh Grant. [00:01:46] So good for him. But that's not what we're talking about right now. Jon Voight and I do seem to be in agreement that Hollywood needs to be a little bit revamped, that it's not as good as it used to be, although we probably have different ideas as to why. But here's is more from him on what is wrong with Hollywood and sort [00:02:02] of like what he plans to do about it. And you guys, it's a lot worse than any of us thought. And many Americans have lost jobs to productions that have gone overseas. It's it's been very serious. People have people have lost their homes, can't feed their families. [00:02:23] After meeting with many of the entertainment leaders, I have brought forward recommendations to the president for certain tax provisions that can help the industry. Some provisions that could be extended and others that could be revived or instituted. [00:02:41] This would help the movie and television production and our beloved theaters that are so important to the American family experience. So he didn't say a whole lot about what the issues are specifically that he's trying to address in Hollywood. Nor did he say a whole lot about his plan to to address these issues. [00:02:59] He didn't elaborate very much on any of those tax provisions. The video was about two minutes long on X, and we I showed you most of it. The rest of it was just him talking about what a great president and person Donald Trump is. Also, he said, he he puts Donald Trump up there as one of the best presidents this [00:03:19] country has ever seen, right up there with Abraham Lincoln and George Washington. And then he also name drops Sylvester Stallone and said, that's my buddy. So that's nice. But speaking of Sylvester Stallone, him, Mel Gibson and Jon Voight, they are Trump's special ambassadors to Hollywood. [00:03:37] So everyone Hollywood, we are in great hands there. But while this does feel like a ridiculous story, there is actually a little bit more to it. So Trump announced this week that he wants a 100% tariff on movies produced outside of the United States, a move that could irreparably damage [00:03:55] the existing American film industry. So here's what he posted on Truth Social about all of this. The movie industry in America is dying a very fast death. Other countries are offering all sorts of incentives to draw our filmmakers and studios away from the United States. [00:04:12] Hollywood and many other areas within the USA are being devastated. This is a concerted effort by other nations and therefore a national security threat. It is, in addition to everything else, messaging and propaganda. Therefore, I am authorizing the Department of Commerce and the United States Trade [00:04:30] Representative to immediately begin the process of instituting a 100% tariff on any and all movies coming into our country that are produced in foreign lands. We want movies made in America. Again, Donald, I think we all just want free healthcare. [00:04:46] We want healthcare for all. That's all anyone asks for. But among his detractors regarding this move is a right wing commentator and author, Ben Shapiro. Why? Just why. I'm sorry. If Hollywood is unable to lower its costs, there is no reason [00:05:04] why you shouldn't be able to go elsewhere and produce your movies. All movies and TV shows now. This has been going on for decades, are basically produced outside of Hollywood. Hollywood has emptied itself out and that has forced them to actually move their own businesses to places like Vancouver and Canada, [00:05:19] or go to other states like Georgia in order to film or go abroad to Romania or Hungary or wherever else in order to film. So President Trump thinks that by radically increasing the cost on movie production, in a time when streaming is already eating out the profit margins of all [00:05:35] of the movie making industry, that is a very badly calibrated executive order. So from the Truth Social post, the thing that Ben Shapiro took a special, problem with was when Trump said that movies made outside of this country posed national security threats. [00:05:51] So here's what he had to say about that. So you're saying it's a national security threat for Romania to offer a tax incentive to film in Romania? I'm sorry. That is not even remotely a national security threat. It may be a threat to Tom Cruise's next paycheck, but that is not a national security threat. [00:06:07] If Matthew McConaughey makes less money because films are being made, or a key grip in Hollywood has to travel in order to go film over in Budapest, that is not remotely a national security threat. We are emptying the term national security threat of pretty much all content. [00:06:26] So Ben Shapiro also asks, you know, where is the demand for any of this? Right. Nobody asked for this. This isn't what we wanted when we said that, you know, we need foreign entities out of our government and, or out of our influence or out of our sphere of [00:06:41] influence for the majority of Americans. And to that point, Ben Shapiro actually said, if you actually wanted to do something about foreign propaganda infiltrating the United States, do something about TikTok. So that's what he suggests. This goes beyond movies and entertainment. [00:06:56] For one, it talks to government control and government overreach into certain aspects. Also, this feels like maybe it's just a it's a little too close for comfort to actually censoring Hollywood and the things that they're able to produce, and also stopping other films from coming into this country. [00:07:13] And I just want to clarify, he's not saying that we're not going to be able to watch foreign films in this country anymore. He's trying to prevent Hollywood studios from going outside of the country, because a lot of movies get made in places like Canada especially. [00:07:29] So he wants to prevent that from happening more. And he said he's going to do a 100% tariff to prevent that. But Trump is also taking something that I think many Americans agree with, that Hollywood is not what it used to be entertainment, frankly. I mean, there's a lot I could say about that, [00:07:45] but that's not what the show is about. But it really like it's something that I think a lot of Americans have issues with right now. But instead of doing things that would actually help to address the issue. He's being a little bit disingenuous, and he's proposing a solution that isn't actually going to help anything that he says it's going to help. [00:08:02] So. As is usually the case with him, he's offering a very misguided and disingenuous solution to a known problem. Jake, I know you have a little bit more on this story. Yeah. So let me tell you how it affected Hollywood and what they might actually do instead of this. But first on, Ben Shapiro. [00:08:18] So I agree and disagree. So is it a national security threat? That's a joke. Of course not a national security threat. Right? So Ben's right about that. And then he's like, we're inventing all sorts of national security threats, brother. [00:08:34] You started that with. Oh, my God, if you criticize Israel, that is a national security threat to America. So you started making that crap up a while back. So are you surprised now that he's just extending it to more things that are [00:08:49] definitely not a national security threat? And then I love at the end of the video when he's like, no, the real thing. The ban is TikTok. They're showing people what's actually happening in Gaza. If they find out what Israel is doing to starve those children to death, that will be terrible for my beloved Israel. [00:09:05] Okay, Ben, focus. We were talking about Hollywood. Okay, so you went on this tangent about how they kind of shut down TikTok. Okay. So anyways, you know, he might actually care more about this because the Daily Wire, they're making movies, which is crazy to me, but okay. [00:09:23] God bless. And so it might affect his revenue. It might affect his business. And that's another reason why he might be upset about it. Okay. So that doesn't mean he's wrong. 100% tariff. Nobody even knows what the hell that means. Just Trump made that up. So is that going to happen? No way. [00:09:40] But for a second, the markets were worried. So what happened? Netflix was down 4%, Disney down 3%, Warner Brothers Discovery down 5%. Paramount down 2%. Comcast down 1%. But then they recovered. Why did they recover? Not in their entirety necessarily. [00:09:56] There's it's a mixed bag there for those stocks. Because they realized, oh, maybe we can get tax breaks out of this because Trump was talking about a tariff that actually would hurt Hollywood. That's why the stocks went down in the beginning. [00:10:12] Because, wait, if we can't sell our movies in China, there's four times as many people in China as there is in America. They don't want those tariffs, right? So a lot of consumers in the rest of the world that they want to be able to reach us. But when Voight started talking about tax breaks, everybody's like tax breaks. [00:10:32] Tax breaks for corporations. This is where, everyone is in. Politics is aligned. And you thought Trump was a different guy, that he's anti-establishment? No, he's just doing the same exact corporate tax cuts, etc. That everybody else is doing. So governor Gavin Newsom from California Obviously jumps in and goes. [00:10:52] California built a film industry and we're ready to bring even more jobs home. We've proven what strong state incentives can do. Now it's time for a real federal partnership to make America a film again. POTUS. Let's get it done. So he's reaching out to Donald Trump enthusiastically. So why is the Democratic governor of California doing that? [00:11:09] Because they've decided they're going to push for a $7.5 billion tax credit to movie companies. No, no, I'm a hard pass on that. Why? Like, look, brothers make movies that make money. [00:11:27] If you can't, that's your business. Not my business. I mean, I love the movies, I love going to the movies, and, mainly I like the popcorn. I know you guys are very surprised. But. But it's not my. Why am I financing giant movie companies? [00:11:44] Because they take that money out of our paychecks. No, I don't need any tax credit going to Hollywood. I don't need it at all. I not not only do we not know not need the tariffs, we don't even know what tariffs means when it comes to movies. So all this is junk. [00:12:01] It's because Trump's a child. Me like movies. Me like movies. Me want to be in movies. You know, in Home Alone two, they took edited out the scene that he was in. He caught all sorts of feelings like threatened to sue got like really [00:12:16] upset and made a whole big deal. Who cares? It's a stupid cameo, a stupid movie. Again, you're the president. Don't worry brother. You're already really famous. But no, in his mind, movies are golden. I always wanted to be in movies. [00:12:32] I'm gonna rescue Hollywood with 100% tariff. All I know is tariffs. I didn't study anything in school. That's why I still hide my grades. Every time you ring the bell below, an angel gets his wings. Totally not true. But it does keep you updated on our live shows.
