Senator Markwayne Mullin is doing a media tour where he's bragging about almost fighting Teamsters President Sean O’Brien.
- 12 minutes
First thing I thought of when I stood up,
I thought, I'm going to break my hand
on this guy's face.
I'm going to take my wedding ring off.
Because when you're fighting,
you learn how to punch correctly.
You really shouldn't break your hand.
But when you aren't doing it with wraps.
So you actually thought you were going
to come to blows in that moment?
I had full intentions of doing that.
Absolutely.
[00:00:16]
Republican Senator Mark Wayne Mullins
should be embarrassed
about the fact that he was, you know,
about to have a Senate session devolve
into fisticuffs over his little spat
with Teamsters President Sean O'Brien.
[00:00:33]
Instead, though, he's going on a media
tour to kind of, like, brag about it.
So there he was,
speaking to Dana Bash on CNN.
And here's a reminder of that heated
moment and what it looked like
during a Senate hearing yesterday.
[00:00:48]
Quick, the tough Guy act
and the Senate hearings.
You know where to find me.
Any place, any time. Cowboy.
Sir, this is the time.
This is a place
you want to run your mouth.
We can be two consenting adults.
We can finish it here.
[00:01:03]
Okay. That's fine.
Perfect.
- You want to do it now?
- I'd love to do it right now.
- Let's stand your butt up.
- Then you stand your butt up.
Oh! Hold up!
Oh! Stop it!
Is that your solution to every problem?
No, no. Sit down, sit down.
Look at you.
You know you're a United States senator.
Sit active.
Okay.
Sit down. Please.
- All right.
- I. Amazing.
[00:01:22]
Now look, Senator Mullen
is trained in MMA,
and I just feel like he's so desperate
to show off that he's trained in MMA.
And apparently he was a good fighter.
He won five zero, but undefeated,
you know, impressive.
[00:01:38]
But how about you act like an adult
when you're in the Senate and you don't
threaten to get into a physical fight with
the Teamsters president during a hearing?
Was.
I'm curious what you thought
about that moment.
I, you know, I didn't know
that this guy was a trained MMA guy
[00:01:56]
or was in some kind of fight.
I mean, it makes sense that he would want
to demonstrate that that's kind
of the only thing that makes sense there.
And it's kind of hilarious to see the sort
of generations, playing themselves out in
that clip and where Bernie's basically
like, look, you're a member of the Senate.
[00:02:13]
We don't act that way.
The Senate traditionally, literally.
It's like a club.
These guys are really chummy.
It's it's no different
than being in the one of the world's
most exclusive country clubs.
And so this guy's behavior
doesn't comport with, you know, the level
[00:02:31]
of decorum that Bernie Sanders believes
that a member of the Senate
should, you know, acquit himself with.
But that's the only thing
that makes sense.
He thinks he could beat this guy up
because he's done MMA before.
And so, you know, he's feeling
very he's feeling himself.
[00:02:46]
But you know, this is all for show.
This is this is all.
So he could make his rounds on the news.
He knew that clip would go viral.
That's the only reason he did this.
And it's the only reason
why he's now doing a media tour
to draw more attention to it.
So I think you make
a really good point there.
[00:03:01]
And look, I want to be clear, I don't
really care all that much about decorum.
Right?
So look, I don't think what happened
in the Senate yesterday was good.
That was incredibly embarrassing.
Threatening to engage in a physical
altercation is super embarrassing.
[00:03:21]
But when I say I don't really care
that much about decorum,
what I mean is passionate debate
I think should be supported.
And I feel like, especially when it comes
to the Senate, if you're out of line a
little bit as you're debating legislation,
everyone's up in arms about it, right?
[00:03:38]
Like, don't be so passionate.
You know, you're hushed tones.
We're all supposed to pretend like we're
okay with everything that's going on.
We might have disagreements,
but let's talk about them
as if we're doing an NPR broadcast
with a banjo playing in the background.
It's ridiculous.
We're talking about legislation that has
a huge impact on American's lives.
[00:03:56]
So I don't mind when when passions flare,
but I do mind when members of the United
States Senate, of which there are only
100 members, make fools out of themselves
and then try to sell that to the
American people as governing the country.
[00:04:14]
This is not governing the country.
It's just an embarrassment.
Now, during a conversation with Dana Bash,
he defended his actions by comparing
himself to notable hero Andrew Jackson.
Let's watch.
Remember, it was it was Andrew Jackson
who was challenged nine people to a duel.
[00:04:33]
Andrew person off.
He also knocked a guy out
for insulting his wife.
Senator, you know,
Andrew Jackson was not a good guy.
Well, it doesn't matter.
I'm just saying that it doesn't.
What happens?
Well, Abraham Lincoln
challenged the guy to a sword fight.
You had. You had a duel.
You seen the blood stains on the on
the on the steps and the capital, Sumner.
[00:04:49]
And I'm not I'm not saying that that has
to happen, but I'm saying that people
like him, this this mob mentality,
teamster boss that wants to sit there
and continue to do that because he thinks
he can intimidate people at some point.
That has to stop, too, because I'm not
supposed to just sit there and absorb it.
[00:05:06]
He needs to be called out
for his actions there.
Fortunately, the thing is,
is I'm capable of doing it.
- What about the people that can't?
- I was.
Please say something.
Do some decoding there
for for those at home.
[00:05:21]
What you just witnessed right there
is white people beef.
When this guy makes mention to some
level of quote unquote mob mentality,
it's literally the oldest trick
in the book to be like those union people.
[00:05:37]
They're, you know,
they're those other kinds of whites.
They're what we used to call ethnic
whites, essentially Catholic whites.
You know what I mean?
Irish people, Italian people from
the northeast, that's what this guy is
referencing there, which is hilarious
because that's what they would do,
[00:05:55]
you know, back in the 1930 and 40s
when they wanted to demonize union
activity, which, by the way, yes,
there used to be a lot of mob involvement.
And if you do your history,
the reason why unions got mobs, excuse me,
[00:06:12]
unions got organized crimes
involved in their business because
the bosses would hire their own thugs
to beat them up on the picket line,
to force them to go back to work.
So the unions was like,
we need our own thugs.
And they got the mob involved.
This is literally the history
of labor organizing in this country.
[00:06:32]
But yeah, there's Senator Mullen
is clearly a clown.
He clearly comes with some ridiculous
corporatist agenda where he sees his job
as being that of the guy in the Senate
next to Bernie Sanders, who's going to sit
there and try to demonize the union.
But I do want to get back to something
you mentioned before in about not
[00:06:50]
caring about decorum and collegiality.
And I'm with you on that
because I think it could be even more.
It rears its ugly head
in some more insidious ways,
and particularly with Senator Sanders,
who, if we want to go back to the
[00:07:06]
campaign, refuse to go after Joe Biden.
And I would argue his relationship
from being in the Senate
with Joe Biden for all these years
is why he won't come after him on his
policy with Between Israel and Palestine.
Honestly, I think that's the reason why
Bernie Sanders is looking like a bit of
[00:07:23]
a clown right now in his public sentiment.
He doesn't want
to go against the white House.
He doesn't want
to go against his boy, Joe Biden.
Thank you for saying that,
because I, I think I've been
incredibly fair to Senator Sanders.
[00:07:39]
In fact, I remember having this
conversation with you on the show before
where I made clear that despite
the lack of fight against Biden's, some
of Biden's terrible policies publicly,
I felt that Senator Bernie Sanders
[00:07:54]
was behind the scenes
utilizing his friendship and relationship
with President Joe Biden to influence him.
And I saw some of Senator
Sanders influence in various elements
of Biden's administration.
I don't think that Biden chose Lina Khan
as the head of the FTC on his own.
[00:08:14]
I really do think that that was
the influence of Bernie Sanders.
The NLRB under Biden has been pretty good,
very labor friendly, especially relative
to previous administrations.
I do think that that was
some of Bernie's influence.
So going along to, you know, going along
to get along, I think was the strategy.
[00:08:33]
But I have my red line,
and my red line with Bernie is his
unwillingness to call for a cease fire.
And you're right,
he does look incredibly clownish
and weak when it comes to that issue.
So he doesn't get a pass there.
Going back to Mullen, though,
he wasn't finished with Dana Bash and CNN,
[00:08:51]
he later decided to make an appearance
on Fox business as well, where he twice
confirmed that he did have every intention
of fighting O'Brien and bragged about
how scared he allegedly made O'Brien.
Which I don't know about you,
but I'm not buying that.
[00:09:07]
Let's take a look at what he had to say.
Maybe you will buy it.
In 2022.
He said he wanted to bring
the mob mentality back to the Teamsters.
Maybe that's true, but you still
aren't going to run your mouth at me
and expect me to just sit there and.
And you should have seen the fear
of his eyes when I stood up to.
[00:09:22]
- Is there anything.
- Senator, that we did not see on camera?
Yeah.
The fear in his eyes when I stood up,
he he was he was scared out of his mind
because he was very thankful
that Bernie Sanders stopped us
after he said, okay, we can do it now.
[00:09:37]
I thought, great,
this is going to be a great day.
I mean, no offense, but I really
wasn't worried about the fight itself,
but I was ready to shut his mouth up.
- This is.
- So embarrassing.
This is a United States senator.
How did this guy get elected?
And finally, I just want to go
to one more video because it is impressive
[00:09:57]
how the right wing can turn any issue
into an anti wokeism conversation,
which you're about to see here.
When I grew up,
it was a little bit of a different time.
Well, me and my friends,
when we played football, when we played
basketball, I played hockey, you know.
[00:10:15]
I don't think there was a single day
that we were playing sports
where we didn't drop the gloves or, you
know, have a brief interlude of, you know,
throwing fists and it be all be over.
You pick up and you start playing again.
You know, when all of a sudden
did we become that woke, that the thought
[00:10:34]
of two people, one responding to a threat
directly saying, okay, you threaten me?
Here's your opportunity. Take me up on it.
Yeah, well, it's political correctness.
It's all of a sudden you got to worry
about somebody's feelings, but.
Oh, by the way,
the left can say whatever they want.
[00:10:51]
I'm sure the Fox News host,
who is a multi-millionaire
and has the hair of a Lego figurine,
was throwing punches all the time.
Like real tough guy.
Now, look, Mullen was an MMA fighter.
[00:11:11]
I feel like he's just, like,
desperate to show that off.
So I do believe
that he's engaged in fights.
But what are we doing here?
How is this a solution to anything?
This is so stupid.
It's so embarrassing.
I don't really have anything else
to say about it.
It's just incredible what substitutes
actual governance in Congress today,
[00:11:29]
including in the United States Senate.
Any final words? Was.
I mean, I guess this counts
for being a man in public these days.
Just just the idea
that you're fighting people at work, like,
since when has that ever been a thing?
[00:11:46]
Like, yeah, I was at my job today
and this guy that I don't like,
I just decided to deck him and I got to
keep my job at, like, this is not a thing.
And this idea that woke people
don't want to fight, I don't know where
where he's getting this from.
This every like, every and anything
can be woke now even, you know,
[00:12:06]
fighting at work, apparently.
- It's amazing.
