MTG Drops SURPRISE Blow Against MAGA Attack Targeting Massie, AOC And Omar
Marjorie Taylor Greene comes to surprising defense of some of her longtime adversaries, including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar, after a political attack ad against Thomas Massie uses AI-generated videos to claim affair between the three of them. John Iadarola and Sharon Reed break it down on The Damage Report. Leave a comment with your thoughts below!

AI slop is infesting politics and social media
seemingly more every day. But I think the grossest
recent example was the ad that we showed you
earlier this week, sexualizing Representative
Ilhan Omar and AOC. Here's a brief reminder
of what that was.
[00:00:25]
This is right.
Yeah, so a couple days ago I talked about how
it's absolutely grotesque to pretend that Thomas
Massey is having sex with those two Congresswoman,
let alone to then transition to Donald Trump,
[00:00:42]
the guy mostly known for his affairs. So I
was enraged by it, but you know who else was?
Weirdly, Marjorie Taylor Greene, who posted
on social media this message, which I largely
grew with and still think could have been about
one fifth as long. She says this fake AI campaign
[00:00:59]
ad lying about Thomas Massey is a violation
of the Take It Down Act that first lady Melania
Trump championed. We voted for and President
Trump signed into law nearly a year ago. Thomas
Massey never dying to held hands with or intimately
engaged with AOC and Ilhan Omar. Well, that
[00:01:15]
is objectively true. That is a very strange
way to phrase it in that but she's not wrong.
The law makes it illegal to knowingly publish
or threaten to publish intimate images of minors
or non consenting adults, including AI generated
imagery. It mandates that websites and social
media platforms remove this content within 48
hours of being notified by a victim. Thomas
[00:01:34]
Massey should sue the three Israeli first billionaires
funding woke Eddie's campaign. That's guy
that it's in support of trying to take out Thomas
Massey. And everyone involved in making this
fake video and everyone who puts it out. Thomas
Massey has voted with Trump 91 % of the time
except when he's pushing war, protecting Epstein
pedophiles, violating your freedoms with warrantless
[00:01:53]
spying FISA, or overspending your money into
further ruinous debt. The only record Ed Galrahan
has is being too timid, too weak, and too afraid
to debate Thomas Massey and refuse to show
up at campaign debates in the district he's
trying to get elected in. Take it down. Well,
she's right, it should be taken down. It's weird
that it wasn't, except that it's Twitter. What
[00:02:12]
do they care about the law? What do they care?
The platform is designed for AI misinformation.
They're not going to set a precedent of responding
to serious concerns about it. And also take
it down is nowhere near enough until these people
are financially ruined for doing this. If not
[00:02:30]
thrown in prison, they're never going to stop
doing it. You have to send a strong signal.
You have to set a strong example. And right
now we are doing that but we're doing in the
opposite direction where we just ignore this
stuff. We just let it happen. We say, well,
there's a lot of ads out there, or I'm sure
somebody will know that it's fake, or social
[00:02:50]
media should take care of it. So long as that
is our collective approach to this, they're
gonna keep doing it. They're gonna get more
more brazen, and we're already seeing that
in this cycle. Sharon, what do you think? Yeah,
and it's effective. This dumbing down, this
numbing to what's really going on that can
attack people, destroy their lives, and people
[00:03:08]
in the public eye. Normally, there's a high
standard there. Dare I say it, Marjorie Taylor
Greene is right and she got there even with
her lengthy post. I also was thinking as you
reading that she's going to make an excellent
perhaps person to rile up the Democratic
[00:03:25]
base and go on the campaign trail selectively
perhaps with some people if she keeps this
up. In this case, it's Massey, but who knows?
I don't think she will go on the campaign trail
with say Omar in the future, but she might.
be able to use these powers of hers for some
[00:03:42]
good coming up in the midterms, let's say. Yeah,
I don't know that Omar would want that necessarily.
uh But look, for some reason Marjorie has some
people on the right that follow her whatever
and certainly will when she inevitably comes
back into politics, which is definitely going
[00:03:59]
to happen. That's what this is about. um I want
as many conservatives as possible to be on
the right side of this issue. That doesn't mean
that we pretend that Marge is reasonable or
sane on topics where she's not. But in this
particular case, I care about the insidious
[00:04:15]
corrosive effect that AI is having on politics.
So good, get people whipped up in a frenzy.
They should be in one, particularly because
this is not the only example of this happening
recently. At least 15 campaign ads featuring
AI generated content have run since November.
Most of them are wildly disingenuous. uh Most
of them, it's not labeled. And most of them,
[00:04:37]
is pointless to say that a reasonable person
would know that it's not real. Clearly, we
don't have the capacity to tell real from fake,
okay? We can't even do it among people. People
think that Donald Trump is authentic. They think
that Ted Cruz is a straight shooter. How do
[00:04:53]
you think they're going to be able to tell whether
Grok generated an image? But as one example,
in the state's gubernatorial race, campaign
of Republican primary candidate Brian Shortsleeve
created an AI-generated radio ad. sounds like
Democratic Governor Maura Healey using Healey's
voice to say things that she has never actually
said, including about the state's economy.
[00:05:12]
The clip does not contain an explicit AI disclaimer.
Instead, the caption says it's what her radio
ads would sound like if she was honest, which
is not the same thing as making clear that
it's AI generated. And by the way, I am not
a person that thinks it would be okay if you
[00:05:28]
let people know it's AI generated. It shouldn't
be allowed to exist regardless of being uh
labeled or not. But in this case, look at how
fast we went from, well, he said it in a tweet
and we're just making his voice say it. So
it's sort of true. Now they're not even doing
[00:05:47]
that. They're literally just making up fake
things to damage them. That's not even the
only AI generated ad in that campaign. Short
Sleeve also has videos depicting Healy as the
Grinch. another of her hissing with red eyes,
neither of which contained explicit AI disclaimers.
[00:06:03]
Now those probably people would know are not
real, but some people, Alex Jones might be
confused, so I still wouldn't allow it. And
if it's so important to you that you make her
the Grinch, pay an artist to do it. I'm sure
we've had thumbnails where Donald Trump was
[00:06:20]
the Grinch, and you know what we did? We had
Norma make it, okay? A talented person who
can make these images in Photoshop. It's not
a revolutionary technology, okay? It's been
around for a while. You don't have to give everything
over to AI. And if the only way that you can
[00:06:36]
win is by lying through artificial intelligence,
you probably shouldn't be in elected office
anyway. Any further thoughts, No, I'll say this
only because Yaz isn't on today. Taylor Swift
was a good example of somebody who's trying
to protect her image. because of everything
[00:06:53]
that's going around with AI and her voice. It's
a real problem. This fake stuff, this taking
people out, and the only recourse you have is
to try to clean it up afterwards. So there's
that. Yeah. a final note, as producer Mike is
pointing out, I don't know how I glossed over
[00:07:11]
this. He's quite active. His last name is Short
Slave. I don't know why, but that... Yeah.
No. Yeah. you or you AI? that's your last name
is short. What did one of your ancestors who's
[00:07:26]
so committed to never covering up his forearms
that they're like, yeah, that's going to be,
that's you now. That's who you are. What is
going on in America?
