WATCH: Stephen A. Smith SNAPS After Kevin Hart Calls Him Anti-Black
  • 15 minutes
This is an ironic story, okay? Stephen A Smith is hurt that Kevin Hart called him anti-black. Here it is. When I learned about it, I'm not gonna front. It stung like hell. And that [00:00:20] was Kevin Hart's roast that he had. The roast of Kevin Hart's special on Netflix. Kevin Hart made a pointed joke about his personal Mount Rushmore of racism. [00:00:43] list of people he claims hate black people. Alongside Shane Gillis, Kid Rock, Hulk Hogan. Kevin Hart included my name. [00:01:03] Stephen A. Smith. And when I saw that Kevin Hart said this. You know, was like one of those where if it rains it pours kind of thing and that kind [00:01:18] of stuff. I have no issue with the joke. If it was a joke. If it wasn't the joke, if it wasn't a joke, I still wouldn't have an issue with it. I have an issue with the fact that it came from him. Somebody that I kinda know a little bit, that I got a lot of love and [00:01:38] respect for. and at a time in my life, knowing I've spent my life fighting on behalf. of my community. that people try to continue this narrative about me. that I know is false. [00:02:01] But then nevertheless, still hurts to hear out of the mouth of anyone who knows me. My grandmother would say a hit dog will holler. Put it up full mass. This is an ironic story. [00:02:20] Kevin, Mr. Kevin, I have no issue with racist jokes against George Floyd Hart. Has called Stephen A Smith anti-black, which by the way, he is antithetical to the progression of black [00:02:37] people by way of policy and politics for sure. Let's keep that picture up because I've been dealing with this story for a minute in the parameters of my thinking. Because I just finished a commentary not too long ago about the nature in which Kevin Hart violated the community [00:03:00] by allowing such ridiculous commentary. to be aired in his name on Netflix. In particular, the racist joke or jokes, allegedly jokes against George Floyd, the murder of that brother. And [00:03:20] how he had access to the production notes. He was generally aware of what jokes would be told. There are some jokes that they took off the show and some they allow. So if you want to find my commentary by Kevin Hart, Please do so, this is the commentary about this situation. [00:03:38] So Stephen A, him hurt according to his own commentary. Stephen A Smith is in his feelings after his celebrity buddy, Kevin Hart joked about him during a roast. Now I want to remind [00:03:54] you that Stephen A Smith has said words that are adversarial to the former first lady, Michelle Obama. Adversarial to former President Barack Obama. adversarial to black women in general. He did on record years ago apologize for offending white women. You can pull it up on YouTube. [00:04:12] He has supported the MAGA movement. He has supported Donald Trump and gone out of his way not to be critical of Trump even though statistically policy wise black women are now losing employment [00:04:27] opportunities at a record rate. Black women, are in this current context of economic market. They are the ones who are diminishing in numbers when they were the fastest rising demographic of most educated and employable individuals. All of these things are happening under the [00:04:44] Trump era. So while Stephen A may think he's winning, black folk are losing. Department of Education gutted that was the only federal agency where black people per capita were overrepresented. And what did Trump do? Eliminate the entire department without saying the word black. Hart [00:05:01] even cracked a joke about his Mount Rushmore of racism, naming people he believes harbor anti-black views. Once again, quote, Mount Rushmore of racism when it comes to hating black people, hosts Shane Gillis, Kid Rock, Hulk Hogan, Stephen A Smith, okay? The joke is funny, Stephen A, [00:05:19] because it kind of fits, brother. If he would have said somebody else that didn't fit, nobody would laugh, okay? So understand, this is a mirror opportunity for you. It's not the joke of Kevin Hart that you should gauge this moment upon, it is the response of the audience that [00:05:34] you should gauge this moment upon. There's more, put it up full mass. However, It was another joke that Kevin Hart is still himself facing aftermath because of his roast that included [00:05:50] individuals that had no business being on the stage. The May 10th event included jokes about his scandals, deceased relatives, enslaved people. Some fans said the material and writers crossed the damn line, while others called it unnecessary. Much of the internet is focused [00:06:11] on one controversial joke delivered by a white comedian, Tony Hinchcliffe, who by the way, has a history of making racially insensitive jokes. Quote, the black community is so proud of you right now, George Floyd is looking up at us all laughing so hard he can't breathe, [00:06:31] end quote. That was his alleged joke. Hart defended. this joke while appearing on the Breakfast Club. This was recently following the special's premiere. But he also said that it was not [00:06:47] uh a tasteful joke to our culture, end quote. Quote, people are talking about that joke, said Hart. Quote, remove me from it. I didn't say it. If you are upset that the night went on, that's a different conversation. It's nothing I can do. I'm not compromising the live production [00:07:11] for the reaction of what? What do you want me to do? Drag him off? Want me to fight after? I don't encourage you to do that, but at least it would have been a response. But let me say this very clearly. Put up Kevin Hart again. He has given you his price. Kevin Hart has [00:07:31] given you his price. What's the price of selling out? Well, obviously a live television production. That's the price of selling out. Well, Kevin, if it wasn't live, and it wasn't a crew, a [00:07:46] camera crew, and you weren't getting paid to be there, would you have said something then? Because according to the commentary on the Brexit Club, was either you compromise a live television production. Or you just say something later that it was distasteful. Here's the [00:08:05] reality dear brother. This is a production which means you have organizers and writers and producers. It is a show. It is timed. Commentaries timed jokes are the way and vetted. You were [00:08:20] aware prior. This is not about what you did afterwards brother. Not for me, not for an individual who is aware of how it works. This for me is about what you did not do to stop it from ever happening. Look at the commentary about uh actors like Eddie Murphy that are [00:08:38] coming out today where Eddie is on the scene of a movie. And they are attempting to create scenes that he believes are adverse to what they are trying to do as black people on that movie and how Eddie Murphy and others would speak up and say something. and not allow it. [00:08:59] What would have happened, Mr. Hart, if you would have simply walked off the stage during that performance? At least it would have been a statement. What would have happened if you simply sent a tweet or an Instagram post after the event to let people know that you disagreed with [00:09:17] the context, the content of that joke, and you stand with the Floyd family? You didn't do any of that. Instead, you waited for your interview on the Breakfast Club to address it, defend it. says distasteful, and then tell people to disconnect you from it. It's your show, sir, [00:09:33] it was your roast. It is your show. Everything may not be your fault, but everything is your responsibility. This is called indisputable with Dr. Rashad Richie. There are things that happen behind the scenes that I will always take the blame for, because it don't have to be my fault to be my responsibility. That's called leadership, brother. Now back to Stephen [00:09:54] A. Stephen A, is probably most hurt that it came from Kevin Hart. Because Kevin Hart is currently in the conversation of being anti-black himself. And to have a Kevin Hart be the person [00:10:12] that tells you you're anti-black as a black male probably stings even more, all right? um The family of George Floyd did release a statement to TMZ following Following the roast [00:10:28] saying quote. Let's try to be a little more positive and not sit up there doing colon inspections by white comedians. It's sad that they even had to release a statement at all. The only statement that should have been released in my opinion is from Mr. Hart. There's more Van Lathan who also was not amused by Hart's defense said this. There are a lot of people who do [00:10:50] not like the way this is being handled. You what this is really about? Black people. don't like to see black subjugated to anything. There is no culture that should overtake your duty as a black person. Black comedy, people are gonna ask which culture is more important, [00:11:10] the black or the comedy? Black police officer, which culture is more important, the black or the police officer? If you are saying I am blue before I am black, then that means a is going to get punched in his face. or a black man, just a black woman, is going to be abused [00:11:29] because you are in the middle of a culture that can be dangerous to black people and you ain't gonna say nothing because you blue and not black. If you do not do that, black people feel unprotected by you, and if they feel unprotected by you, they feel like they cannot trust you, and [00:11:45] if they cannot trust you, they'll find somebody else that they trust to support. If you're a black comic, what's more important, the black or the comic? Because... If there are rules in comedy that make black people feel less protected, less seen, more exposed, then people are gonna [00:12:03] be like, your jokes. And that's fair. But when people are asking them, it's important that people know, Kevin Hart or anyone else, that they're not asking these questions like with an objective view of the lens of freedom of speech in America. They're asking these questions [00:12:21] in context. And the context... It is 400 plus years of some of the worst torture, degradation, and disenfranchisement in the history of the world. And it's difficult to put that to the [00:12:38] side for a laugh. Yeah. There's a lens. There's a context. There are jokes that were slated but not allowed, which means somebody is curating the live production. And those individuals [00:12:57] decided that joke was perfectly okay. Once again, at the beginning and end of the day, this is Kevin Hart's show, his name is on it. His production team is involved. It is about him. And frankly, dear brother, over half of those individuals did not even deserve to be on the stage with [00:13:16] you. The greatest headline out of that show should have been the reconnection between you and our other dear brother, whom you have had an ongoing beef with for many, many years. But that's not the headline. The headline is about the racism. at the production. There's [00:13:39] a reason why nobody on this stage joked about the Holocaust. There's a reason why your culture, our culture, was front and center for labs. You know what that reason is, because Netflix [00:14:02] knew you wouldn't do a damn thing about because you have a price. Stephen A, the shoe fits, even if it's a tight fit. Look in the [00:14:18] mirror. All right, this is the thoughts. I mean, let's be really, really real for a second here. let's use Stephen Smith's own words again. What did you do to provoke this treatment, Stephen Smith? That's his, when he wanted to abusing black women, what did they do to provoke it? [00:14:37] So what did you do, sir? Well, I'll tell you what you did. You are hurt. Because Kevin Hart, very successful comedian. Why is he successful? Obviously he has major talent, but he always stays silent in the room when these jokes are told. That's why he's had a lot of success. [00:14:52] And so have you, Mr. Smith, because you were offended because you didn't. He took your vulnerability away. Wow. He's gonna throw me under the bus like that. And I think it is very interesting that this is the person he choose to throw under the bus. A black man? Yeah. Those writers were [00:15:09] white. Yep. You didn't throw them under the bus. You absolved yourself, but you want to take it on with the black man. And he's her. Stephen Smith, sir, because he knows Kevin doesn't do that kind of stuff. He lets it all slide. didn't let us slide with you because [00:15:24] you provoked it. You provoked it. That is so true. And this is this is that tasting of your own medicine kind of thing that you just brought up. That's that's a hell of a connection back to tasting your own medicine because. Every time somebody has complained about any treatment, Stephen A Smith has gone to what did you do to bring it upon yourself? [00:15:44] That is a compelling point you make this system. Thank you for that.
