WATCH: Black MAGA Pastor's OFFENSIVE Inauguration Prayer Infuriates Bannon
- 8 minutes
I had to talk about it.
Imagine a black preacher so offensive
that even Steve Bannon says
you've gone too damn far.
What are we talking about here?
It is that we hold these truths
to be self-evident,
[00:00:19]
that all men are created equal.
We pray that you use our president, that
we will live in a nation where we will
not be judged by the color of our skin.
So let freedom ring from
the prodigious hilltops of New Hampshire.
[00:00:38]
Let freedom ring
from the mighty mountains of New York.
Let freedom ring from the heightening
Alleghenies of Pennsylvania.
Let freedom ring
from the snow capped Rockies of Colorado.
[00:00:55]
Let freedom ring.
And when we let freedom ring,
we will be able to speed up that day.
All of your children, black men
and white men, Protestant and Catholic,
Jew and Gentile, will be able to sing in
the meaning of that old Negro spiritual.
[00:01:14]
Free at last, free at last.
Thank you, God Almighty.
Put up the picture for mass.
[00:01:32]
He's lucky that a real one wasn't
in the crowd, because they would have
quickly told him to sit his $2 ass down
as he pretends to be some extremely
[00:01:51]
weird knock off version of a great leader.
But since everybody else on stage
is acting hell, he might as well.
Two.
Black pastors Trump inauguration
prayer sparks backlash
[00:02:08]
from Steve Bannon, of all people.
I don't recall a time in history
when Steve Bannon and Al Sharpton have
agreed, but they have agreed on this.
He is accused of hijacking
Martin Luther King's King Jr speech.
[00:02:25]
So Bannon says, quote.
The benediction.
How long did the benediction stay? 1990.
Okay.
Well, benedictions take 19 minutes.
That's not acceptable, Bannon said.
[00:02:44]
So, who campaigned with Trump in 2024?
Thank God for the incoming administration
and prayed, quote, that America
would begin to dream again.
End quote.
He went on to ask that God quote,
let freedom ring.
[00:03:05]
End quote.
Across the nation and fulfill the dream
that every American be.
Quote. Free at last, free at last.
Thank God Almighty, we are free at last.
He didn't even give Doctor King credit.
[00:03:26]
He just let it roll off his tongue like
nobody knew what he was getting it from.
There's more.
So critics felt the King homage was
disrespectful, obviously, especially since
it was delivered at a ceremony celebrating
Trump's return to the white House.
[00:03:43]
The preacher said Trump personally made a
request to him to deliver the invocation.
So let me go over what others
said about the prayer.
Quote.
Lorenzo Soul show's hashtag MLK day.
[00:04:01]
To mock Martin Luther King Jr
on worldwide television at the close
of a presidential inauguration,
wrote Ken Barnes on X, quote.
Not sure if I've seen
a more shameful display ever.
[00:04:20]
Another one that was embarrassingly
over the top and very, very clownish.
Wonder how Snoop
and Nelly feel about this?
One user replied.
[00:04:35]
Bannon was more concerned that he
may have taken the focus off of Trump.
Now keep in mind.
This is an interesting dilemma.
You have Al Sharpton
who says the guy's over the top.
[00:04:51]
He's utilizing, this this Doctor
King style and Doctor King wording
in a way that's, well, it's fictional.
It's performative.
Everyone is able to understand
the cringe worthiness of the situation
[00:05:11]
except for one guy.
Put the picture back up again, Jordan.
Do you see the look on Trump's face?
That is a proud white male.
Let Trump tell it. That was Doctor King.
[00:05:27]
Let Trump tell it. All right.
So, the president's speech was was longer
this time, he says, but he had more
to go through in a broad audience.
The new golden Age, Bannon said,
[00:05:43]
when the our father can take 90s right,
or Hail Mary,
it didn't have to be a Catholic prayer.
Give give me the best Protestant.
Bring it right, he continued.
Talk about a buzz kill. Just ridiculous.
The benedictions were ridiculous,
but they were hand-picked
[00:06:03]
by your Lord and savior, Donald Trump.
The man said.
Trump hand-picked him personally.
So if you're criticizing the preacher,
Steve, you're criticizing Trump.
[00:06:22]
Steve, can I call you Steve?
If Trump can't get the pick
right for who in the hell says the prayer
at the inauguration?
What makes you believe?
What makes you have confidence that he can
get the other picks right, including you?
[00:06:41]
All right, Ben, thoughts here?
Well, Bannon's upset
because Trump's not his bestie anymore.
He's now closer with Elon.
And Bannon hates Ellen,
so he's just right out the gate.
[00:06:56]
A little butthurt,
but listen, this pastor.
Can we be surprised that Trump is
not choosing the most elegant
and sophisticated pastor to deliver?
[00:07:13]
Are we surprised that Trump doesn't have
the greatest selection
of black leaders to choose from?
I'm surprised there wasn't Snoop
giving that benediction
during the service himself.
[00:07:28]
But in defense of this pastor as well,
I, I don't know.
The only thing that comes to my head
is just this thought that keeps hitting me
that I hope this hits well.
I just wanted to share.
He probably thought he was giving back.
I feel like he probably thought,
ask not what your country can do for you.
[00:07:46]
Ask what you can do for your country.
I just made that up, but I feel as though
it kind of captured the moment.
Yeah, it's an original quote of mine.
A lot of people like to quote it back
to me when I go do stand up,
[00:08:02]
especially on Martin Luther King Day.
I don't know how you do that
and not be incredibly clear.
You're crediting
and paying homage to the man.
But it's the very beginning of what became
a real hell hole of a day right
[00:08:19]
after that, with a lot of inhuman acts.
Yeah, a lot of cruel acts
taken by the administration
already followed by Elon Musk doing what
seems to everybody like a Nazi salute.
[00:08:34]
And whether that was his intention or not,
it has empowered millions of white
supremacists around the country already.
With great power
comes great responsibility.
And I also made that quote up.
But these people don't understand it
and they won't.
[00:08:49]
That's right man,
you just have all originals today.
