Job Description

TYT is investing in the journey our users make when visiting tyt.com or apps, to make that journey both easier to understand and more fun for those who embark upon it. We aim to gain, retain and promote more audience to the highest levels of engagement with TYT and its brand, and further its mission to “boldly pursue truth, challenge the establishment, and drive positive change.”

This role spans oversight of a number of platforms that have a TYT publishing and community presence, focused on making the usage experience more cohesive and unified in its goals, while embracing the unique qualities that set each platform apart from the others.

This project has the potential to benefit audience / community members in the following ways:

  • Provide those who desire to do more than passively consume media with a pathway for active participation
  • Provide a safe, fun, entertaining environment that fosters the free exchange of ideas and active participation in TYT’s engagement ladder
  • Participate in the creation of real-world impacts

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain discussion and post moderation programs for selected community platforms where TYT has a brand / media presence
  • Recruit, train, and support an all-volunteer moderator team; model Core Values and audience member interactions you want the team to reflect while performing direct / hands-on moderation work
  • Oversee development of supporting materials, policies and processes to aid work of moderation team and help community members safely participate in discussions
  • Manage schedule and coverage of moderators to coincide with live shows on supported platforms
  • Monitor internal and external communication channels where community needs are surfaced
  • Build and maintain reactive information sharing and escalation processes as needed between points of contact on the moderation team and internal TYT departments to efficiently respond to emerging feedback / issues generated by community
  • Develop necessary processes to connect initiatives on TYT’s Marketing calendar to day-to-day work of the cross-platform moderation team; utilize available measurement tools to understand and optimize impact of those efforts
  • Collaborate with Campaign Organizer to orient moderation efforts towards furthering the reach and participation in progressive social change campaigns - those published and sponsored by TYT; those published and sponsored by TYT audience members; and those published and sponsored by outside organizations.
  • Utilize chatbots and other in-stream tools to improve community experience and support internal goals
  • Develop a measurement plan using available analytics for each supported community platform, so we can better understand trends within and across communities and the impact moderators are having
  • Own KPIs for portion of TYT’s engagement ladder, describing our Core Community. KPIs include count of active users, comment / post growth, follower distribution, and level attainment.
  • Curate the best contributions from the community for higher visibility - for example, featuring model profiles, or identifying the best comments to be read on-air.
  • Partner with TYT Legal as needed to manage sensitive, controversial, or potentially harmful contributions

Requirements

  • Well-informed and passionate supporter of progressive values and policies
  • Strong writing, organizational, and communication / public speaking skills
  • Demonstrable leadership experience in conflict resolution and crisis response
  • Proven track record with volunteer recruitment and retention; managing, motivating and supporting teams of volunteers
  • Strategic thinker; understands TYT business goals, and moderation business function deeply enough to create and continually adjust organizational and procedural linkages between the two
  • Curious mind; master available data sources for supported platforms, tell stories and make recommendations based on that data

Education

Bachelor degree or higher in related field (ex: political science, sociology, psychology)
