If Lindsey Graham loses his race for reelection as a Senator from South Carolina, let’s hope he doesn’t pursue a new career in comedy. That assessment comes after Graham claimed he was only being “sarcastic” during the recent Amy Coney Barrett hearings when he made reference to the “good old days” of segregation.

In this clip from The Damage Report, John and Gary Chambers discuss Graham’s comment and whether a white southerner should be making jokes about how great the Jim Crow era was, especially considering the fact that his current opponent, Jaime Harrison, is black. Gary says that saying something offensive and then playing it off as a “joke” is typical of racists and bigots, but you would never catch a black person making similar jokes about segregation. John agrees, pointing out that we’re currently living through an era when many of Graham’s fellow travelers on the right think that white people are the biggest victims of racial animus, so his “joke” just happens to reinforce that spirit of victimhood.
