Job Description

The Director of Membership and Audience Funding is a key role of TYT subscription and audience support, leading product marketing and go-to-market strategies to acquire and retain subscribers across all platforms. In this role you will be responsible for managing and developing TYT’s membership and audience funding business across platforms. This will be primarily measured on net subscriber growth, lifetime value, and donation growth.

TYT has the most highly engaged audience in online news and our viewers care about amplifying voices and taking action to drive positive change. You will be managing the business that harnesses the power of our community to grow our share of voice in the news media landscape through developing our membership and audience funding strategy.

Primary Responsibilities

Drive the leadership, strategy, planning, and execution of the membership and audience funding business across the subscriber lifecycle. Work with the Leadership Team to develop and drive membership and audience funding KPIs. Develop TYT’s membership and audience funding value proposition, with an audience first approach, highlighting impacts of TYT and the community.
Lead growth strategy and execution focused on achieving company targets for membership and audience funding revenue. Monitor all membership and audience funding platforms and offer systems, to ensure ongoing optimization of the platforms and consistent offers across all platforms, working closely with the Director of Platform Management. Meet monthly with internal platform managers to identify opportunities for membership growth and performance. Work with Marketing, Community, Programming, Production, and Publishing teams to implement membership and support strategy. Provide insights and feedback on content, community engagement, performance, and implement strategies to help build support and subscribers using unique tactics across platforms Work with the Community Liaison to build benefits of membership within the community. Work with the Director of Programming, oversee the development, production, and launch of new member programming and special events as well as existing member exclusive programming schedule, and provide team with insights and recommendations Evaluate target demographics and appropriate distribution channels and marketing tools by platform. Work with the paid media manager on acquisition strategies and Director of Marketing on organic acquisition strategies. Provide weekly summary reports that identify revenue, subscription and audience learnings. Summaries should also provide feedback on strategies and platform performance, as well as solutions to continue growth Conduct research on other membership plans and audience funding models and offers and syndicate with key stakeholders. Manage budget, analytics, forecasting, and KPIs for membership and audience funding.

Requirements

5+ years experience in subscription and / or audience funding experience with news media or equivalent experience, including retention strategy, planning, and development. A strong performance track record with brand development and implementation, campaign development and execution, membership / donation marketing, and email marketing. Experience with building marketing conversion funnels and related A/B testing. You are strategic, creative and business-minded who likes to work with a team and solve problems. Experience with leadership, influencing, and collaborating cross-functionally Experience dealing with nuanced responsibilities, and willingness to work between platform policy, strategy, and execution Professional background with managing and interpreting large amounts of data via Google Analytics or other analytics platform. Experience with YouTube and Facebook is required. Experience with Twitch, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok is a plus. You have a passion for news, politics, the media landscape, and progressive issues.
