In the hours after the January 6th insurrection attempt, then-Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell claimed that he felt “exhilarated” at the negative impact the riots would have on Trump’s presidential legacy. McConnell seemed absolutely gleeful that Trump would suffer the consequences of the attack, even though he [Trump] has only consolidated his political power further since January 6th.
