Teachers in Los Angeles have agreed to a deal, but now Denver teachers appear ready to take to the picket line. John Iadarola and Jayar Jackson break it down on The Damage Report. The vote by members of the United Teachers Los Angeles union enables teachers to return to work on Wednesday, ending a battle that left 600,000 students in limbo. Preliminary numbers from the vote show that "a vast super majority" voted yes, ending the strike, UTLA President Alex Caputo-Pearl told reporters late Tuesday. He said the counting of the ballots will continue on Wednesday. "It's a historic day today in Los Angeles," he said." #TheDamageReport #JohnIadarola #TYTNetwork

The latest stir began Sunday, when Giuliani seemed to admit on Meet the Press that discussions around a Trump Tower in Moscow—the secret project that has raised significant questions about the president’s ties to the Kremlin—continued up until the 2016 election, despite Trump’s insistence he’d had “nothing to do with Russia.” “But this—as far as the president was concerned, an active project to at least October or November of 2016?” host Chuck Todd asked Giuliani on Sunday. “An active potential . . . deal?” “Yeah, I would say an active proposal,” Giuliani replied. He put it even more bluntly in a New York Times interview published the same day, saying that Trump had told him the Moscow negotiations had been “going on from the day I announced to the day I won.” #TheDamageReport #JohnIadarola #TYTNetwork

Is Kirsten Gillibrand funded by small donors or by big moneyed interests? John Iadarola and Senior Reporter for The Center for Public Integrity Carrie Levine break it down on The Damage Report. This week, more are jumping in. The big one is Senator Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, who announced her plans on the “The Late Show” Tuesday night. Out of a huge field — some two dozen contenders are still doing candidate-like things at this point — she’s one of a handful who combine conventional credentials for the job with mainstream Democratic positions and priorities, a group that is even smaller if we eliminate those who are outside the typical age range for nominees or who appear to be well behind in organizing their campaigns. (It’s not too late to jump in, but it’s getting there, and my guess is that those who have so far only hinted at a run are becoming less and less likely to be serious challengers.) Beyond her credentials, Gillibrand’s biggest strength is that she appears to really want the job. She’s been hard at it for a while now, and she rarely misses any opportunity to build her stature. That has earned her respect from many party actors, although opinion about her has been polarized since she was credited, fairly or not, with driving Al Franken out of the Senate. Her biggest weakness? She doesn’t start with any natural constituency. She’ll certainly contend for the support of organized women’s groups, which were key to Democratic victories in the midterms. And it’s not hard to picture her being a candidate that most of the party can live with. But it’s also easy to picture her as everyone’s third choice, which doesn’t bode well for the early-voting states." #TheDamageReport #JohnIadarola #TYTNetwork

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York. The Oversight Committee announced Tuesday that among its new members were Ocasio-Cortez, Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, Rep. Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts and Rep. Ro Khanna of California. Politico first reported the committee appointments. The Oversight Committee is a far-reaching and prominent panel, expected to be among the most active at investigating the Trump administration. The committee already has a blockbuster hearing on its schedule, as it's expected to hear public testimony from Trump's former personal lawyer Michael Cohen early next month. "Our Committee is the primary investigative body in Congress, and we will address the issues that affect the American people every day while we root out waste, fraud, and abuse," Oversight Chairman Elijah Cummings of Maryland said in a statement announcing the members." #TheDamageReport #JohnIadarola #TYTNetwork

The Wednesday night vote was 220-210. Democrats reintroduced the bill in January, after passing it in 2019, banking on the party's narrow majority in the Senate to get it passed through both chambers this cycle. The bill seeks to "to expand Americans' access to the ballot box, reduce the influence of big money in politics, strengthen ethics rules for public servants, and implement other anti-corruption measures for the purpose of fortifying our democracy, and for other purposes."" #TheDamageReport #JohnIadarola #TheYoungTurks

"I don't understand the political or economic wisdom in allowing Trump to give more people relief checks than a Democratic administration. People went far too long without relief last year," the New York Democrat told the Washington Post's Jeff Stein. "If anything we should be more generous, not more stingy.”" #TheDamageReport #JohnIadarola #TheYoungTurks

Todd Piro and Ashley Strohmier interviewed Cawthorn on Fox & Friends First, where the topics ranged from election laws to the Biden Administration’s border policy. The interview turned to the lighter side, however, when Piro asked Cawthorn to react to President Joe Biden omitting Seuss from his proclamation for Read Across America Day." #TheDamageReport #JohnIadarola #TheYoungTurks
