Impeachy Keen

Hosts: John IadarolaBrett Erlich
The Democrats are debating whether or not to begin impeachment proceedings against Trump. John Iadarola and Brett Erlich break it down on The Damage Report. "Based on what we have seen to date, going forward on impeachment is not worthwhile at this point," Hoyer, the second highest-ranking House Democrat, told CNN. "Very frankly, there is an election in 18 months and the American people will make a judgment." Following the highly-anticipated release on Thursday, prominent congressional Democrats raised serious concerns about the President's conduct as detailed in the report and made clear that their own investigations into the President and his administration will continue. Democrats are now calling for Mueller to testify before Congress, reiterating demands for access to the full, unredacted report and criticizing the Attorney General's handling of its rollout. But there is no indication as of now that House Democratic leadership will alter its strategy of avoiding impeachment proceedings.” #TheDamageReport #JohnIadarola #TYTNetwork

Meanwhile, the hashtag #ImpeachTrump is trending again on Twitter. The 448-page report, with redactions, which Attorney General William Barr released on Thursday morning, detailed the nearly two-year investigation, which resulted in 199 criminal charges and 34 individuals and organizations facing indictments or pleading guilty—including six former Trump associates and three Russian companies. While the special counsel's team did not establish that either Trump or his campaign had criminally conspired with Russia to sway the election, and did not charge Trump with obstruction of justice, it did not exonerate him. Following the report’s release, Ocasio-Cortez vowed to sign on to fellow freshman Representative Rashida Tlaib’s resolution calling for an investigation by the House Judiciary Committee into whether Trump had committed impeachable offenses." #TheDamageReport #JohnIadarola #TYTNetwork

Why do members of the alt-right gravitate to Andrew Yang's message? John Iadarola and Mother Jones' Ali Breland break it down on The Damage Report. Until March 4, the hashtag #YangGang had been quietly floating around Twitter, only occasionally garnering a peak of just hundreds of daily mentions. But on that day it spiked into the thousands, according to metrics shared with Mother Jones and compiled by Zach Verdin, a partner at the pro-democracy independent research collective Guardians.ai. Verdin hypothesized that 4chan’s /pol/, a discussion board notorious for being a watering hole of racist and sexist trolls, was responsible for the so-called Yang Gang’s Twitter explosion. Immediately before the hashtag went viral, people boosting Yang flooded the board with absurdist, neon pink vaporwave memes backing his campaign and its centerpiece proposal to provide every American a monthly $1,000 universal basic income." #TheDamageReport #JohnIadarola #TYTNetwork

The term applies to White House press secretary Sarah Sanders and her misleading statements from the press briefing room podium. Now some prominent journalists are questioning whether she should remain in her job. Robert Mueller's report confirms that Sanders simply made it up when she said that "countless" FBI agents had told her that they were thankful Trump had fired FBI Director James Comey. Sanders made similar claims multiple times on two different days. Yet she told Mueller's office in an interview that she merely made a "slip of the tongue." According to Mueller's report, "she also recalled that her statement in a separate press interview that rank-and-file FBI agents had lost confidence in Comey was a comment she made 'in the heat of the moment' that was not founded on anything." #TheDamageReport #JohnIadarola #TYTNetwork

Trump's tax cuts gave the average worker just one extra cent. John Iadarola and Brett Erlich break it down on The Damage Report. Follow The Damage Report on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheDamageReportTYT/ Help build the Home of the Progressives http://tyt.com/JOIN Subscribe to The Damage Report YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/thedamagereport?sub_confirmation=1 Follow The Damage Report on Twitter: https://twitter.com/TheDamageReport Read more here: https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2019/04/workers-got-a-one-cent-bonus-thanks-to-trumps-tax-cuts "The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 was primarily about saving corporations billions, but, of course, Donald Trump and the G.O.P couldn’t sell the legislation on the slogan “Google needs more money.“ Instead, they claimed that the bill was really about the middle class, whose lives (and bank accounts) would inevitably be improved when these magnanimous companies shared the wealth not only with top executives and shareholders, but with average workers. More than a year after the passage of the historically unpopular law, the White House continues to embrace this trickle-down fantasy, declaring in a “fact sheet” released yesterday titled “American Workers Are Thriving Thanks To President Donald J. Trump’s Middle Class Tax Cuts” that the T.C.J.A. has resulted in “big bonuses.” And by big, they mean, on average, a penny. According to the Economic Policy Institute’s Larry Mishel, data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Employer Costs for Employee Compensation shows that “bonuses actually fell $0.22 between December 2017 and December 2018 and the average bonus for 2018 was just $0.01 higher than in 2017.” While a number of companies made ring-kissing announcements after the bill was signed into law claiming it had allowed them to dispense modest one-time bonuses, a number of these had reportedly been in the works long before the legislation was passed. What’s more, as Mishel notes, the trend toward giving out bonuses rather than raises “started taking off four years ago,” and hasn’t exactly been great for employees, considering they’re not permanent." #TheDamageReport #JohnIadarola #TYTNetwork

Ancestry.com has apologized and pulled down an ad romanticizing slavery. John Iadarola and Brett Erlich break it down on The Damage Report. The ad, now being pulled by the company because of widespread criticism, was called “Inseparable” and staged in some vaguely 19th-century setting and featured a young white man convincing a young black woman to “escape to the North” with him. “Will you leave with me?” he anxiously asks, but she doesn’t get a chance to answer before the ad cuts to a tagline: “Only you can keep the story going.” A voice-over continues: “Uncover the lost chapters of your family history with Ancestry.” Following a tweet by Business Insider producer Emmanuel Ocbazghi, who first flagged the ad, many black Twitter users, particularly those who study the black experience in America, reacted in disbelief. “I have so many questions about this @Ancestry commercial,” law professor Melissa Murray wrote. “1) Is she his slave? 2) is this a real story? 3) is she his slave?” Journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones tweeted, “While it’s true that 1 in 4 black folks who test their male line through DNA end up finding a white man, it ain’t because of no damn slavery love story. I’m so tired of y’all.” When I asked the company about the ad’s origins, a spokesperson responded with a statement: “Ancestry is committed to telling important stories from history.” “This ad,” the statement continued, “was intended to represent one of these stories. We very much appreciate the feedback we have received and apologize for any offense that the ad may have caused. We are in the process of pulling the ad from television and have it removed from YouTube.” (The ad was originally made for the Canadian market; it is unclear if it aired on television elsewhere.)" #TheDamageReport #JohnIadarola #TYTNetwork

The Wednesday night vote was 220-210. Democrats reintroduced the bill in January, after passing it in 2019, banking on the party's narrow majority in the Senate to get it passed through both chambers this cycle. The bill seeks to "to expand Americans' access to the ballot box, reduce the influence of big money in politics, strengthen ethics rules for public servants, and implement other anti-corruption measures for the purpose of fortifying our democracy, and for other purposes."" #TheDamageReport #JohnIadarola #TheYoungTurks

"I don't understand the political or economic wisdom in allowing Trump to give more people relief checks than a Democratic administration. People went far too long without relief last year," the New York Democrat told the Washington Post's Jeff Stein. "If anything we should be more generous, not more stingy.”" #TheDamageReport #JohnIadarola #TheYoungTurks
