He has insisted that his own handpicked Federal Reserve chair, Jerome H. Powell, is intentionally acting against him. He has said other countries, including allies, are working to hurt American economic interests. And he has accused the news media of trying to create a recession. “The Fake News Media is doing everything they can to crash the economy because they think that will be bad for me and my re-election,” Mr. Trump tweeted last week. “The problem they have is that the economy is way too strong and we will soon be winning big on Trade, and everyone knows that, including China!”" #TheDamageReport #JohnIadarola #TheYoungTurks

China has retaliated against Trump's tariffs and his supporters are among those most affected. John Iadarola and Brooke Thomas break it down on The Damage Report. China demands the US remove all tariffs on Chinese goods. China demands that the amount of goods it must purchase from the US be realistic. China demands that its "sovereignty and dignity" be preserved. Multiple outlets carried this message, including The People's Daily, Xinhua, and The Global Times. Both the first point, the removal of all tariffs, and the third point, the preservation of Chinese sovereignty, are inextricably tied as part of the country's negotiations with the Trump administration. US negotiators are demanding that China pass laws that would give foreign companies legal recourse in China if they had their intellectual property stolen, or if they were forced to transfer technology, for example. To China, passing such laws at the behest of a foreign power is a violation of its sovereignty. To the Trump administration, it's part of the trade deal's enforcement, and it won't remove the tariffs until it sees those mechanisms in place. #TheDamageReport #JohnIadarola #TheYoungTurks

When asked a question about trade talks with China, which have been taking place over the weekend, Donald Trump said he is against using memoranda of understanding [MOUs]. ‘I don't like MOUs because they don't mean anything. To me they don't mean anything,’ Trump said. Robert Lighthizer jumped in to explain that an ‘MOU is a contract … a binding agreement between two people’. To which a gruff Trump replied, ‘I disagree.' Lighthizer got the message, adding ’from now on we're not using the word Memorandum of Understanding anymore. We're going to use the term trade agreement, all right?’" #TheDamageReport #JohnIadarola #TYTNetwork
