CPAC’s happening and they brought Ted Cruz. He came prepared for comedy. And he's terrible at it.

Ted Cruz delivered a rambling speech at CPAC Friday morning, joking about his trip to Mexico while his state was in crisis, and mocking mask-wearing amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Opening his speech, Cruz owned the recent controversy surrounding his trip to Cancun as millions of Texans were left without power during a deadly winter storm.

“I gotta say, Orlando is awesome! It's not as nice as Cancun, but it's nice,” Cruz told the crowd. CPAC is being held in the Florida city this year instead of the Washington, D.C., area.

Responding to the video John Idarola pointed out "people are still suffering in Texas and you’re still lying about why you went to Cancun. That makes it not fertile territory for self deprecating comedy. But this is why he is one of the most despised people in the country."

Host of Deep Dive on TYT Twitch, Jordan Uhl provided coontext, saying, "while he's laughing about Cancun at CPAC there was a kid who died trying to keep his little brother warm in texas. This is a very grim situation."

At least 30 people have died in Texas as a result of the historic winter storm Uri earlier this month, which knocked out power and left millions without drinkable water.

Cruz was the center of controversy for leaving his constituents to freeze amdist a winter storm last week. Upon returning to Houston, Cruz admitted to reporters that taking the trip was a mistake.

Now he's shamelessly joking about it. But as Cenk Uygur noted, "conservatives have never ever been funny. There’s a reason for that because they punch out at people with no power.

Cruz was loaded up with more attacks that he thought was funny, including one on Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep Alexandia Ocasio Cortez.

In his remarks, Cruz said the U.S. faces “dark times” with Democrats controlling both chambers of Congress, adding dramatically that “Bernie is wearing mittens, and AOC is telling us she was murdered,” his voice reaching a high pitch.

Uygur responded, saying, "Bernie wearing mittens so what? They chanted hang Mike pence so were they’re planning on murdering someone? Yes. They were running through the halls looking for Nancy pelosi. They brought nooses, they brought zip ties. Were they planning to kidnap Pelosi? Yes."

"Would a top target have been AOC especially because she was warned ahead of time? Yes. It wouldn't be a rando backbencher who is in the news right?….I not only find that monstrous but Ted Cruz basically nodding to the grotesque audience at CPAC," he added.

"It’s incredible to see how CPAC has devolved," Uhl concluded.
