After formally recognizing the independence of the cities of Donetsk and Luhansk in eastern Ukraine, Russian president Vladimir Putin has authorized “peacekeeping” troops to move into the now separatist-controlled Donbas region. Although it is unclear if troops have already made their way to the cities, this is a clear act of aggression towards Ukraine and their western allies.
