2346 - Henry Wallace & the Fight for the Soul of the Democratic Party w/ John Nichols

Michael Brooks hosts The Nation's John Nichols (@NicholsUprising) to discuss his upcoming book, The Fight for the Soul of the Democratic Party: The Enduring Legacy of Henry Wallace's Anti-Fascist, Anti-Racist Politics.  On today's show: Trump says voting is an honor, should not be a write-in thing. The Nation's John Nichols (@NicholsUprising) joins Michael to discuss his upcoming book, The Fight for the Soul of the Democratic Party: The Enduring Legacy of Henry Wallace's Anti-Fascist, Anti-Racist Politics. Henry Wallace was a progressive figure who served as Secretary of Agriculture under FDR, as well as VP and later, Secretary of Commerce. His politics were in many ways ahead of their time, as he took a truly intersectional view on fighting corporate interests, racism, and imperialism, at home and abroad. Looking at Wallace's political career, as well as those of other progressives like Jesse Jackson and George McGovern, Nichols lays out a case for how politicians like Bernie Sanders and AOC can fight for change both within and against the system. On the fun half: PBS Lula package and interview: Lula says Bolsonaro thinks Trump is "a higher being," copies the US President. Glenn Beck says ending social distancing is a new Civil Rights movement. Klob & co try to solve the crisis with $4k job training tax credit. Striking McDonald's worker explains demands. Mike Pompeo denies that firing IG was retaliatory, says media reports are "crazy."
