Political News, Online Media

Regular, Full-time

Job Description

The News Assistant will play a support role for every aspect of TYT’s original reporting and publishing. This will entail assisting with researching, reporting, editing, writing, proof-reading, fact-checking, and publishing articles and other content, including TYT’s daily Progress Report newsletter, videos, and social media. You will also disseminate and promote TYT’s original reporting. This will include leading a range of social-media efforts across a variety of platforms. You will also be expected to network with external organizations to promote and grow awareness of TYT’s reporting and writing and to generate/pitch/execute initiatives to do so, as well.

You will at times be asked to work long hours and/or odd hours depending on deadlines, breaking news, etc. (most of the time, you will have considerable flexibility working out a schedule that works for both you and the team). You will be expected to stay on top of current political news. You will report to the managing editor and work directly with TYT reporters, fact-checkers, and other staff.

Familiarity with AP or other widely accepted style guide.

Applicants should have professional-level communication skills, including the ability to write, edit, and proofread to make copy perfect. They should also have a working familiarity and demonstrable skill with at least some top social-media platforms – not just consuming, but creating content.

Professional journalism experience is preferred but not required. Applications should show some prior interest or engagement in journalism or some other public-facing endeavor in a relevant field such as academia or social-media content creation. Attention to detail is a must; resumes and cover letters should be free of typos and grammatical errors.

TYT is an equal opportunity employer.
