Primary Responsibilities

As a Junior Broadcast Engineer, you will be the first line-of-defense for the seamless technical execution of in-studio and remote-integration productions. You’ll work collaboratively with other technical staff members to maintain and operate our content contribution and distribution systems in the evolution and optimization of TYT’s primary broadcast facility. The Junior Broadcast Engineer will operate and monitor key systems; maintain uptime for our live streams; maintain uptime for our VOD delivery systems; increase studio production opportunities through new systems integrations; as well as troubleshoot and resolve issues in both contribution and distribution environments. Responsibilities include:

  • Serve as resident expert for live production / video stream operation and maintenance
  • Participation in producing complex events that are highly visible within the company
  • Own the processes around the day-to-day operation of live streams; setup, start, monitoring, and management
  • Maintain strict quality standards and compliance for live and VOD distribution of content to consistently meet operator and platform standards
  • Conduct daily equipment and system checks
  • Monitor VOD delivery systems
  • Know how to curate and publish live events via web publishing tools when needed
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and quickly resolve issues pertaining to live broadcasting and studio-based live production and to know when to escalate as necessary
  • Collaborate with other engineers and cross-functional teams to maintain and install broadcast systems and integrate new technologies for digital media production, recording, and broadcast
  • Assist Senior Broadcast Engineers with maintenance of networking and IT infrastructure as it pertains to IP-based and VOD distribution technologies
  • Assist with short and long-term technical planning
  • Help train Broadcast Stream Operators and other staff on best practices for live broadcasts
  • Manage time and communicate effectively with other engineers, operators and staff
  • Other duties as needed


  • Ability to focus for long periods of time
  • The ability to learn complex systems
  • Strong experience and know-how to support extensive troubleshooting in software and hardware systems
  • Capacity to work closely with others and get along well in a fast-paced environment
  • Capable of prioritizing and handling multiple events at the same time with the same level of urgency
  • Able to maintain composure in stressful situations
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Basic understanding of broadcast signal types, audio and video formats, sync and timecode, and signal flow
  • Experience with live streaming protocols and live streaming platforms like Twitch, YouTube, Facebook, Restream, etc.
  • Experience in operating streaming software like OBS or Telestream’s Wirecast
  • Basic knowledge of operating systems like MacOS and Windows
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 25 lbs. as well as work that may require use of a ladder
  • At least 3 years of experience with audio and video equipment is preferred
  • Basic understanding of audio mastering a plus
  • Familiarity with IP-based media protocols like NDI or Dante a plus
  • Familiarity with IP networking and knowledge of the OSI model a plus
  • Familiarity with operating systems like Linux a plus
  • Ability to work afternoon shifts, and occasional night and weekend shifts
  • Understanding of The Young Turks’ content, audience and run of show a plus
