Job Description

As the Broadcast Engineer you will be the go-to person for the seamless technical execution of in-studio and remote productions. You’ll work collaboratively with other technical and operations staff members to deploy software, install hardware, maintain and operate our systems in the ground-up creation and optimization of TYT’s primary broadcast facility. The Broadcast Engineer will create and document workflows and best practices; operate and monitor key systems; maintain uptime for our live streams; increase studio production opportunities; troubleshoot and resolve issues in both live and live to tape production environments. The Broadcast Engineer will be the point person for maintaining all onsite server room hardware and its upkeep.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for audio and video engineering, maintenance, and installation
  • Participation in producing complex events that are highly visible within the company
  • Install and maintain video, audio, and other equipment associated with studio production
  • Conduct daily room, equipment and system checks
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues pertaining to studio recording and live broadcasting
  • Develop and document workflows pertaining to audio, video and live streaming according to best practices and new developments
  • Guide studio staff in the operation of mission critical systems
  • Investigate, recommend, and develop solutions for studio improvement and automation
  • Collaborate with other technicians and cross-functional teams
  • Contribute to short- and long-term technical planning
  • Identify and evangelize new technologies, patterns, solutions, and best practices
  • Assist with the selection and evaluation of emerging technology and technical vendors
  • Manage time and project execution, and communicate effectively with other technical staff and operators
  • Responsible for all onsite studio server and related hardware including its maintenance, upkeep and documentation
  • On point for ensuring all remote and onsite productions including directing staff as needed during any on-air disruptions
  • Other duties as needed


  • Possess a strong understanding of broadcast signal types, audio and video formats, sync and timecode, and signal flow
  • Understanding of video production - Cameras, lighting, video switchers, video playback and recording
  • Experience with digital mixers, compression, equalization of frequency (EQ), mastering
  • Must be able to route the proper mix-minus audio sub-mix to IFB lines
  • Experience with audio and video routing - digital and analog routable systems and ethernet / internet systems
  • 3+ years of experience with audio and video equipment required
  • 2 years of experience in IT Administration or an equivalent technical field is highly preferred
  • Understanding of and experience with media technology like NewTek, Behringer, Ross Routing, SDI, NDI and Dante required
  • Understanding of and experience with Telestream’s Vantage system a big plus
  • Proficiency in operating software and hardware encoders and decoders
  • Knowledge of live streaming protocols
  • Experience and know-how to support extensive troubleshooting
  • Capacity to work closely with others and get along well in a fast-paced environment and capable of prioritizing and handling multiple events at the same time with the same level of urgency
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • The ability to learn complex systems and know how to document them through writing as well as by visual language tools like diagrams and flowcharts
  • Ability to work onsite before and during all live productions for maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Ability to work afternoon shifts, and occasional night and weekend shifts
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. as well as work that may require use of a ladder
  • Understanding of The Young Turks’ content, audience and run of show a plus


Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
