Bonus Episode, October 10, 2014
On this Friday edition of Totally True or Totally Bullshit, topics include: • The Syrian Kurdish town of Kobani, along the Turkish border, is at risk of falling to ISIS militants, despite heavy US airstrikes against ISIS positions. The US is expressing increasing frustration with Turkey for doing too little to defend Kobani and fight ISIS. The US is right and Turkey should get more involved with the fight against ISIS, especially considering the militant group is so close to Turkish territory. Totally True or Totally Bullshit? • Jon Stewart was recently courted by NBC to replace David Gregory as host of Meet The Press. The job eventually went to Chuck Todd, even though NBC reportedly offered Stewart a great deal of money before he turned them down. It's a shame too because Jon Stewart would have brought a fresh voice and perspective to the Sunday talk show, and served our democracy better by holding politicians and other leaders feet to the fire in ways that most TV news reporters don't. Totally True or Totally Bullshit? • As a pejorative, the term "cocksucker" associates negative personality traits with the act of performing oral sex on a man. As such, it is a hurtful slur against gay men and should not be used in such a manner. Totally True or Totally Bullshit? • Jon Bon Jovi doesn't deserve to qualify for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Green Day does deserve to qualify for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Totally True or Totally Bullshit? Dave examines Salt Lake City's solution to chronic homelessness and breaks down why it works on many different levels. The approach's emphasis on prevention rather than reaction is at the heart of its efficacy.  A healthcare article from the New York Times goes in depth on the "fee for service" structure of the industry. A case study shows that the Affordable Healthcare Act has largely corrected many of these problematic incentives. It is reducing costs and improving outcomes. Dave talks about Ukraine's national anthem lyrics. After Home Depot hired a cyber security expert to address some issues, it was later discovered that the same specialist had created numerous vulnerabilities for his previous employer. There was huge hype in the news over Alibaba's IPO which was prohibitively priced for the vast majority of investors. There is little talk in general about the real economy within the mainstream media in general. Dave scrutinizes Venezuela's economic climate. Show notes by Malcolm Fleschner and Ben Tannen

The Young Turks: October 10, 2014

Cenk, Iadarola, Wes Clark Jr, and CJ Werleman host TYT. A WH official revealed that Obama is mulling ways to close Gitmo, as he promised at the beginning of his 1st term. John Boehner lashed out against this plan in a statement, claiming that Obama is going to unleash the terrorists onto American soil. Sen Pat Roberts pledged at a campaign stop to shut down the Senate and government if Obama tries this. A Dr. Keith Ablow editorial speculated that President Obama has invited Ebola into America in order to remain powerful to a weakened country. Ingraham, Gohmert, & Limbaugh also had similar theories to bash Obama and connect him to Ebola. President Obama is confirming his support behind Net Neutrality. Videos are played showing Obama reaffirming his support and hinting that although he has no control over the FCC, that they will support it as well. Cenk thinks that the jury is still out on this issue since Obama’s appointee to the FCC has shown he disagrees with the president. Alison Lundergan Grimes is caught in a gaffe for refusing to answer a question of whether or not she voted for President Obama. A Video of Grimes' evasion where she called herself a Clinton Democrat is played. Cenk rants about why she can’t pursue a populous agenda. Since CJ is a known author about religion, Cenk asks him to weigh in on the Bill Maher & Sam Harris conversation about Islam. CJ sees him as dangerous and breaks down how non-religious factors have caused violence to boil over between the West and radical Muslims. Wes disagrees with a few points by CJ.
