The Young Turks: March 03, 2014

Cenk hosting today.  The situation between Ukraine and Russia continues to escalate after Putin sent the army to occupy the Crimea region.  Discussion over what America and the European powers should do in response.  Video of Sec of State Kerry pointing out that the aggressive act was trumped up under phony pretenses to invade another country.  These statements were very ironic after what America did in Iraq under the Bush Administration.  Cenk points out that they set the precedent for this kind of act when they did the exact same thing.  Republican reaction to Obama’s response to the latest Russian moves is that of calling him weak and inactive.  John Boehner said that we have to recognize when enough is enough.  Videos of Sen Graham and Rep Mike Rogers leading the criticism.  The WSJ and WaPo also published scathing editorials, ripping Obama.  Sarah Palin posted to Facebook about how she was right about Putin feeling emboldened enough to invade Ukraine.  A businessman/scammer took several Texas State Representatives for $2.5 million to invest in a ponzi scheme business.  He convinced them that he was a devout Christian so that they would trust him.  These four state reps sued the scheming businessman even though they've received over $600K from a PAC that looks to stop lawsuits from people that were taken for money.  A Kentucky Church group has implemented a “guns for Jesus” campaign that attracts people to church by giving them guns.  These new members profess their faith, and get guns for it.  One of the pastors rile up the gun toting crowd and brag about an army forming right there in church.  In the Middle East, “Army of God” is Hezbollah.  When Republicans are challenged by the bank lobby for Dave Camp introducing legislation that forces them to have some responsibility in the tax system.  The bank lobby told them that all big fundraising would be cancelled for the foreseeable future if they didn’t shoot the proposal down.  The GOP responded by saying the proposal was merely a draft.  Glenn Greenwald has exposed more spying revelations about Britain’s online spying and propaganda that they share with America.  Their spying isn’t directed at terrorists, but at political opponents and “hacktivists.”  Greenwald exposed the instruction booklet on their tactics to pull this off correctly.  The manual details the way they get potential opponents to bow their heads.

Ana joins Cenk for SCS.  After Matthew McConaughey won the Academy Award, his speech got a lot of positive attention from deplorable Conservatives when he profusely thanked God.  TYT doesn’t like the way he went about it, though.  Jared Leto also won an Oscar for his role in Dallas Buyers Club and ruffled feathers with his speech where he reached out to the LGBT community, as well as the Ukraine and Venezuela.  He originally caught heat from the LGBT community when he trivialized the role after winning the Golden Globes.  The transgender community was still upset that he didn't utter the word transgender when shouting out their cause.  A woman that got internet fame for her DUI mugshot is suing a background checks company that used the image to sell their product. CA governor Jerry Brown spoke on MTP about why he’s worried about legalizing marijuana in his state because it may cause a widespread lack of alertness.  A man that worked at a medical marijuana dispensary was arrested for his job, a couple of years after he stopped working there.  He was sentenced to 2 years in jail even though the job was legal in the state.  All of this came after the federal gov’t said they wouldn’t intervene.  The SCOTUS is hearing the case of a mentally challenged man that is facing the death penalty over a murder he and an accomplice committed.  He just barely scored above the mentally challenged threshold of 70 on the IQ test to be deemed mentally capable to be held fully accountable.  N. Korea has released an Australian missionary after he was detained.  Comparisons to Kenneth Bae are now forming.  Cenk admits that he isn’t sure that he agrees with bailing out Christian missionaries that travel to hostile places with the intention of converting people that live under a dictator.
